Well, I just added this intake gizmo, the Vortec Cyclone, in the hopes of getting better gas mileage and power, and seat of the pants tell me, my engine feels stronger and smoother. Very similar results to when I put in the K&N replacement filter. Can't wait to see gas mileage figures. I am currently getting about 23 mpg city and 29 hwy and have 3600 miles. Engine is sooo much quieter now especially when you hit the higher revs! :pepper:

Installation was a cinch once I knew how to correctly overlap the metal piece due to smaller intake hose in the air filter box.

I ordered 2 - another for my wife's Miata and even though she was skeptical at first, she feels the difference too!

The general consensus from a Google search is that it is a scam.

According to a Popular Mechanics review/test - it does not work.

If the auto manufacturers could simply slap on 50 cents worth of metal to boost hp and reduce fuel consumptions, they would have already have done it. More hp and lower fuel consumption = more sales.

I read those too but thought if the company was able to post up dyno results on their website, albeit not specific to the Patriot, I figured there has to be something to it. I am a firm believer and they are not paying me to say this. If some people can benefit from better gas mileage, all the better.

As you can tell I don't go with the general consensus. After all I bought a Jeep and not a Toyota/Honda. Consumer Reports puts the Patriot near the bottom of the list.

The Popular Mechanics review doesn't even test THIS product. Just some cheap imitators and I would have never bought those.

"They do! Some manufacturers are building swirling fins into their intake manifolds. Vortex technology is being adopted in new, hi-tech offerings from General Motors, Mitsubishi, Infinity, Mercedes Benz and Subaru." Vortec Cyclone site.

I thank you all for your opinions but if someone can back up that this doesn't work with FACTS, I'm all ears.

I can't wait to do an impromptu drag race with another Patriot to see what happens. Anyone in San Diego up for it? Lemme know!

I'll believe it when I'll see some of your gas milage results. I usually don't trust so called "professional" opinions and tests provided by manufactures. I like to hear it from real people (not 1 or 2). I started some motot oil research (AMSOIL), and one opinion from service manager at dealership, where I got my Pat yesterday, is positive. Yes, use it, you get better milage and performance, but don't overdo it with change intervals! I will do my homework before I jump into any conclusion!

"Seat of the pants" is not a good judge. Ever heard of a placebo? Have one of your friends secretly take it out, within the next few months, but not tell you when they did it, and see if you can notice when it is gone.

There is something to adding turbulence to the intake. As a matter of fact, if you look at the pictures of the intake on the 2.4 at allpar.com they show part of the VVT setup which includes damper doors at the intake ports.

However, (there's always a catch isn't there.) performance does not equal economy. As a matter of fact, just the opposite. The computer system in the vehicle monitors the mixture or air:fuel ratio and keeps it constant. If the cylinder takes in more air, it also takes in more fuel. It's just that simple. It's a matter of physics.

I am very happy to say that I increased my highway mpg to 31!!!

I also noticed that going up a certain hill, before my engine was revving at about 2900 rpm at 65 mph and now it is only revving at 2600.

I might not know how this all works but I'll take the results thank you. Like I said before, my challenge to a drag race is still open.

Have you heard of efficiency?

I have been running my Pat for 55,000 miles with the Vortec Cyclone. I have been getting consistently 26-27 mpg with mixed hwy/city driving and 30+ on the hwy, with a high of 33. I removed it a couple of days ago to see if there was any difference to this gizmo. I had a nice long drive of about 280 miles to see what mileage I would get without the Cyclone. This drive consisted mostly of backroads so average of 50-55 mph with twists and turns and ups and downs. With this terrain I would usually get 30+ mpg with the Cyclone. Without it, I was getting 26 mpg and I was quite shocked to see that low of gas mileage but happy to know that the Cyclone was doing it's job. At an average cost of $3.50/gal. over 55,000 miles, I saved at least $765 total in gas cost. Yeah, I would say I got my money's worth. ;)

Again, any naysayers about this product are usually people who have not tried this exact product. So unless you have actually tried it, your opinion is just an opinion, with nothing to back it up.

Try running at 75-78 mph and get back to us, the CVT doesn't know you put this into your air box, so your CPU doesn't know either.
We ran these in Saabs and Grand Cherokees, with no noticeble returns of any kind. Pixzy dust!
I have no use for hyper-milers!:notworthy:

Try to sell this snake oil gizmo in the UK & you would have the " Trades Discription Act " & the " Office of Fair Trading " giving you a kick in the Arse !!
