am back to the drawing board
with pat in the shop again
and jeep cancelling my lifetime warranty because they dont have record of my 5 yr inspection, even though i have original inspection receipt in the vehicle, and i had dealer send me copy of inspection report which i forwarded to chrysler corporate i still have no lifetime warranty,
Wait...if you have the records from the dealer that they did the report in time, they can't cancel the warranty. That's a lawsuit big time...I'm getting ready to call Jeep RIGHT NOW and make sure they have my inspection report on file...no chance I'm having my warranty cancelled for not having it done when I know I did and I have my receipt as well.

I was looking at Fj, Escape, Envoy, and Patriot. Really wanted the mileage, driving an '95 GC Limited averaging around 8-10. 0-60 in 3sec, but terrible around campus - lots of 1/2 mile trips. Pat was best deal.
Just got my notice in the mail and the dealer wants to do lifetime inspection now, yet purchase date was end of August. Seems to me the manual mentioned a 2 week window around sales date(?).

I was looking for a replacement for my 01 Blazer, so I gravitated toward similar body styles. Test drove a few vehicles, but price and practicality, sadly, were my motivating factors.

Test drives:

Mazda Protege5 (04, i believe) - awesome little car, felt like a go-kart. Handling was superb. Transmission shifted like butter, so nice. Ultimately too small for my needs. Price was excellent, tho, and I see them everywhere - I'm guessing they're very reliable.

Ford Escape - It just felt awkward. Stiff seat, felt like it was floating in the middle of the cabin. Engine felt gutless (no torque, and a V6?), transmission shifted like crap. Just felt horrible to be in it. Maybe previous owner died inside or something, was still haunting, leaving creepy vibes all over.

Kia Spectra (03-ish) - Handling was eh, throttle was demn-near binary - idle or full power, nothing in between. I was gonna crash it, probably.

Subaru Forester (03, maybe) - Right size, right price, right mileage... but just wrong. Interior felt shoddy, couldn't find power hiding anywhere under the gas pedal. I T W A S S O S L O W. Transmission made vague guesses at what gear to be in. Rattle rattle rattle. I'm guessing the previous owner beat on it some, but it just wasn't fitting the bill, when I honestly thought it would be perfect before i drove it.

Then the Patriot. Which i paid more for than I intended. But it was the best of the bunch.

Now, only $1,200 till payoff.

can call 877-iam-jeep to check on status of warranty,
it appears dealers do not submit inspection report to corporate, thats up to the individual,
if they dont have copy of inspection you would have to send it to them,
if you dont have it, need to call dealer that did the inspection to send you a copy,
my current repairs wouldnt be covered under warranty regardless,
throttle body and new tcpm $1700 bill.
dealer said he see's cancelled lifetime warranties all the time, and generally corporate takes +6 months to correct if they reinstate it at all, and do not reimburse repair bills made in the mean time.

If it was up to the owner to submit the inspection report that would be stated on paperwork about the LPTW that would be given to the owner at purchase which I have never seen( and I had a vehicle that came with the LPTW ). You are being fed a big pile of BS. You had the inspection done by a Chrysler dealer and you passed. Your warranty is good end of story. As the other member stated to deny it would be a HUGE law suit.

Right from Jeep.com about the LPTW( that came w/ vehicles not that you buy )...

Q4: Are there specific provisions to the new warranty?
A4. In order to maintain the Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty, you must have a powertrain inspection performed by an authorized Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealer once every 5 years. This inspection, performed at no charge, must be made within 60 days of each 5-year anniversary of the warranty start date of the vehicle. It is your responsibility to perform preventative maintenance on your vehicle. You're strongly encouraged to follow the instructions contained in the Scheduled Maintenance Service guidelines in your Owner's Manual.
Now where does it say you have to file the report; just that it has to be done by a certain time frame and at a Chrysler brand dealer.

think fiat is trying to void as many of the lifetime warranties as possible,
both the dealer and corporate both told me dealers dont send inspection reports corporate.
as a way to void more of the warranties they may be forcing more of the burden on the individuals,
i have my original, and dealer sent me a copy,
but give 5-10 yrs down the road,
who knows,
also dont wait till you have a problem to check on status, call jeep and check.

didnt mean to sideline the thread,
back to the topic,
was going to consider a liberty,
Liberty is no longer offered.
WTH??
that leaves no middle ground between pat and GC.
$20k car to +$30k, with nothing in between.
adds to the misery
dont consider wrangler middle ground as thats a category within itself :)

Had a Civic coupe and needed the space with decent mileage since my new job has me traveling quite a bit. Test drove and considered a handful of cars, my girlfriend's family owns a Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler/Mitsubishi dealership so they threw me the keys to whatever I wanted to test :D

Patriot Base 5spd: Lacked the options I wanted and the shifter felt too far away from the driver's seat. But it had everything else I was looking for which is why I eventually opted for the Latitude.

Dodge Dart Rallye: It was a nice car, I liked the styling, but the seats were really lumpy and it wasn't as roomy as I was hoping. The exhaust note over 3000rpm was a nice surprise.

Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback: Had a decent amount of space, but the interior was all plastic and just looked and felt cheap. Didn't even bother driving it as my girlfriend has a Lancer GTS so I assumed it felt the same.

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: Same issues as the Sportback. Didn't drive it.

Chevy Sonic Turbo: Too small. 'Nuff said.

Subaru Impreza Wagon: It had all the same options (plus a few) as the Patriot, but the trim level I was looking at was a bit out of my price range. The ride was smooth, but the engine felt a little weak. Definitely had the cargo space I needed and became my second choice.

Nissan Rogue: If you thought the Patriot has a cramped-feeling interior, try one of these with the black interior. Seats were hard and it was at the top of my price range.

Unless owner's were given paperwork stating they had to file the inspection report results when the vehicle was purchased, or told they had to do it after the inspection was done, Fiat/Chrysler can not use that to get out of it. If they truly are trying to do that it won't take long for word to spread and the law suits will follow shortly. Just no way they can do that. The consumer MUST be told that is part of their responsibility. All Chrysler said with those vehicles is the inspection must be done. They can't change the rules later.

I would like to hear JeepCares chime in on this.

Good thing you didn't since Suzuki is backing out of the US
That's the funny thing, a week after I bought my pat, Suzuki came out and said they were pulling out. The dealer called me and offered a grand vitara at a huge discount.... Maybe if i had waited... Oh well, very happy with my patriot.

Well with my 09 I looked at a caliber, but it wasn't roomy enough. Tried the Pat and leased it on the spot. With my current one I was looking at an Avenger, but frankly it didn't hit the right buttons, and I kept wandering over to the Pat because I loved my old one. No real surprise I bought it.

Our 06 Chrysler T&C was our third Chrysler van, but the new ones are too big and burn too much gas. We looked at several vehicles, drove seven or eight, and liked the Compass better than the others. Focus was good on gas, fun to drive, terrible dashboard and controls, couldn't tow anything. New Escape- same stupid dash, weird looking rig, Dart was too cramped, would not consider a Subaru - Toyota-Honda anything. Caliber was close, but the CVT turned me off, drove both Compass and Patriot with the CVT and decided to wait for the 6-speed. Glad I waited; I bought one the same day I test drove it. And we're very happy with it.
