I am looking at two Patriots, new. One with A/C and one W/O A/C. I am curious how the ones without are in the summer? I don't really like A/C and have owned vehicles without in the past... some ventilated better than others. I guess I am asking if anyone is happy/unhappy to not have A/C in their Patriot? Thanks, Mike

I have AC but hardly use it. I love riding windows down, but the leather gets pretty hot. I've actually broken my air a few times because of not using it.

I wouldn't mind not having it.

Thats how I feel... I'd hardly use it, and would care less if it were there or not. My wife says it'd be nice to have, and the dogs would appreciate it (we have a few other vehicles with A/C). I am going to get the lifetime max warranty anyhow, so if it broke, it would cost me $100.00 to fix. The cost difference is roughly $900.00 though. If my friend at the dealer cannot get the 5 speed locally, he is going to get the non A/C one for me, and it looks like I will get a Patriot Saturday or early next week.... with or w/o A/C....

It's an easy fix, but it's still the hassle of getting it fixed. Our family mechanic told me even id windows.are down, turn it on at level one. Because a seize up isn't worth the downtime.

Either way, best of luck on the purchase.

You should run it at least once a month for 5 minutes or more so that the seals do not dry out and leak. Plus it keeps everything lubricated. Regardless, I don't like A/C personally myself, lol

if you plan on keeping it forever, I would say no a/c is fine, if you plan on selling it within 10 years, you'll want the ac, as it will be much easier to sell.

if you ever plan on coming to AZ, AC is a must. when I bought my commuter car I had two requirements: 4 doors and AC, especially with kids, it can be really rough to not have it.

You folks do know that the a/c comes on when ever the defroster is on, right? So, at least it's getting "exercised" in the winter.

When I lived on the coast (Monterey, CA) we didn't actually need a/c, BUT...when you're in and out of your vehicle a lot, having a/c meant that the car would cool off faster after being parked with windows up.

Now that I live where we get nearly 60 days of 100 degrees plus, I wouldn't be without it! I'd consider the car "non-op" if the a/c was down...

The 100°F days are bad but it is the 110°F days that really get me! AC is a must for me! At least we don't have much humidity. I moved here from outside Philadelphia. It was 103° on both loading and unloading days. 80% humidity in PA, 17% in CA. You can guess which was worse. I think I would want AC in PA too.

in AZ, i use my defroster about twice a year is all. The bigger issue is the 150+ degree temperature inside the car after the car has been sitting in the sun for a few hours.

i've just converted it to C° and i think that's enough to cook something inside the car. or get burned by the leather seats.

i have a black pat, so it tends to heat well in summer. if i have to leave the car under the sun i make sure two windows are a bit down, so the interior gets some ventilation and hot air has somewhere to escape. it helps a bit with the cabin temperature.

and i think i've never heard/read before that someone doesn't want an a/c. my euro model comes with climate control (no option for a/c or no a/c) and it works pretty good. i have it set to 22°C and it cools and heats the interior fast. and you can set the vents so they don't blow air directly into your face or hands. it's really good.

i think it's better to go for the pat with a/c.

we often crack a window, and my MPG in the summer drops in a big way because I'll go out and start the car, and let it run and let the ac get going before we actually get in the car. and when we have our kids with us, we bring frozen cool packs in the car in a cooler, and will put them on the seat buckles to cool them before we load the kids up. Some of the shopping centers offer covered parking and so we actually will go there over a lot of other places when we have the kids. We also make sure the family car is parked in the garage at home...

I prefer cooler temps, and no A/C, I love the window open and fresh air, but there are days that the A/C is a must.

My Tracker has no A/C now, and have not had time to work on it. At around 150K miles I replaced the compressor with one from a boneyard, and that one stopped working around 200K miles. As long as I keep moving, it's not too bad. I have a fan for the dog box, and fill soda bottles with water and freeze those and put them under a towel in the bottom of the box. And never leave the dog in the car when it's parked.

I drive the Patriot to work everyday though, and sit in traffic, and some days the A/C really helps.

I had ac broke it and miss it terribly. Well not yet since it's winter here but once it warms up i will be getting it fixed, can't stand being hot a sweaty in my vehicle.

Mine's equipped with A/C, but I've only used it a couple times, and I think it might be broken after going through a few mud holes, not really sure. As it is, all I need to do in the summer is roll the window about halfway down for some fresh air. Used to roll it all the way down, but now even with just the one window open, the wind flips my shades up. That gets pretty annoying.
