Has anyone taken there headliner to be wrapped in suede? I've been toying with the idea, because I really want a blacked out interior. The previous owner was a slob and there are greasy prints all over the roof like it was his/her personal napkin.

I went to a local guy today, and he wanted $700 and I walked away. I'm looking for opinions on how DIY this really is. I'm comfortable with taking apart the car, and am aware I'd need atleast 2 more sets of hands.

I know most suede comes in rolls 58 inches wide, and our headliner is about 53-54 following the curvature. And I'll need about 3 1/4 yards to have enough from front to back, but I would buy more as I may wrap the panels.

My questions:

How hard is it to DIY suede wrap a headliner?

Is there a material I need to be looking for specifically?

Will the 3M 90 glue hold well enough?

Half way done with the pillars. It's really not that bad. Yeah, I've messed up in a few spots but it still looks really good so far.
Sent my mom on a errand to get some plastidip for the tan pieces that aren't being wrapped.

All in all, two hours of work and 3 pillars done! I think I'm going to run out of suede before I make it to the C pillars.

Good luck getting the pillar covers to snap back in...they fit tight.

When I popped my A pillar it came out as expected.
Putting it back in was a bit of a bother tho...it just didn't want to go and I feared breaking something. I still couldn't tell you how, exactly, I did it but suddenly it popped in.

I honestly thought I would break or snap something first, tho.
The extra thickness of the suede will pose a problem so be careful.

And be prepared to use more force than you think it will take.
Fine line there, hope you cross it OK.

Overall, it hasn't been that bad. Ive taken my time for once, and it's been pleasent. For once, I haven't snapped clips and broken parts upon disassembly. I ran out of the suede, so I'll go pick more up tomorrow because its currently on sale for $6.50 a yard, compared to the $19.60 per yard without sale. I still have the second portion of both C pillars to cover which will be very difficult as I can't remove them from the car due to the back seatbelt, or atleast that's how it appears. Ive gotten all my plastic pieces ready to be plastidipped, and that's where im calling it a day. I have to be at work in an hour. Sometime this week, my car should be reassembled and looking stylish!

X off those large sections with sound deadening stuff...even if its the fako, cheepo stuff from Home Depot.

The suede will act as a sound deadener so you should be able to just use strips and run 2 X's in each area.

I'm talking about the open roof panels between each cross brace.

Careful around those airbags, you don't want them to go off.

It jist takes time, this isn't my first time removing all the panels, so I knew the basics. You just have to get over the fact that your car will be in pieces for a few days. Infact, I have to screw my seatbelt back in so I can go get more materials to finish and I hope to finish covering everything tomorrow.

I love how everything is looking so far!
