I remember the first time I saw the "liftgate ajar" message on the dash. Could not believe someone took the time to program in a sideview of the Patriot just to show you the liftgate was ajar. Still cracks me up 3 1/2 monrhs later
I found it amusing as well; it was at least something cute to look at while I drove my broken Patriot around (should be back from the body shop tomorrow, though).

I just wonder, however, since they did that for the rear gate ajar message, why didn't they do the normal "door ajar" graphic to look like the Patriot as well?

It should have a voice saying, "macht die verdammte Tur zu, dummkopf!"
Besser vielleicht wäre: "Zum Donnerwetter nochmal Du alte Sau! Wenn Du nur die Benützungsanleitung schon richtig lesen würde, hätten wir keine Problemen mehr. So was ein Quatsch! Nun, bitte die Karosserieklappen Deiner Leukoplastbomber ordentlich schließen."

I realy need to check if that realy appears in the german version. Maybe as scrolling text :D

And by the way i found the Jeep software programmer - the responsible one - the one in question - you all know - and here he is:

How about if the car says the same thing a human would say. Hey, the door isn't shut.

I always thought it would be great with those talking cars from the 80's if one setting were "grandpa" Hey! Wear your seat belt. What's the matter with you, change the dern oil. Hey, the door's open. Don't drive so fast.

ajar means like partially open.
Would you believe that I am aware of that?

My point was that "open" would be simpler English for those whose first language is something else. Also, to me it seem that "door open" would be more of a "standard" message. Maybe I've just driven different cars than you guys?

Meh, no big deal to me either way. Just a thought I had.

I hit myself in the chest opening my door on a steep hill.

When I got into my Patriot, there was no little light noting "Door is ahazard."

I think Jeep dropped the ball on this one.

How about a little dashboard note saying "Cruise control stalk is apaininthetuckus? Or "Rear view mirrior is alittletoofaraway?"
