In normal conversation, do you call your Patriot "the car", or "the truck"?

  • CAR - it's based on a Calibre, duh...

  • TRUCK - it's my big 4X4 SUV that's just as capable as any truck out there

I used to have an S10 Jimmy, and had no problem calling it "the truck". Now, whenever I refer to the new Pat, I stumble a little. Is it "the car", or is it "the truck"?

And I'm only asking about when you say to someone, "I'll go get the truck", or "honey, I think it's time you wash the car".

I don't want to know what you think it should be called - just what you call it.

I just call it the "Jeep"... I think that settles it. :)

The "truck" is my dad's Tahoe and the "car" is my mom's Mercedes so those two options are taken anyways.

So your poll is flawed since there isn't a "Jeep" option. ;)

I called it truck today. the dealer dude called it truck as well

however, its a hybrid, so you can call it either I guess lol. I try to call it jeep. I had a friend today that doesn't know about cars, I said I got a jeep patriot, and he thought I was talking about a wrangler lol

CAR - it's based on a Calibre, duh...
thats like saying to calibre owners:

what is it?

TRUCK - it's based on a Patriot, duh...

lol :p

Since my fiance drives a tiny little Dodge Neon, the Patriot is naturally considered "the truck." I usually refer to it as "Jeep" though. It's a habit I've had for all 3 Jeeps I've owned. It was especially confusing when I owned a Grand Cherokee and a Patriot at the same time!

I wouldn't call it a truck, but that's because we don't tend to use that word much in the UK. I guess it would be either the car, the Jeep or the UAV (Urban Assault Vehicle) as a friend of mine named it the other day.

To me the Patriot is in a class all by itself, defying conventional labelling.

That said, calling it the 'Jeep' or the 'Patriot' feels about right to me. Better yet I think would be to give the vehicle a charming nickname that reflects its personality and the owner's (or owner's family) lifestyle and experiences. Maybe when I finally have one in my garage I'll just call it 'Nellybelle' and be done. In any case if I had to choose between calling it a car or truck, I'd go with car because it's definitely not a truck .. except when it is. :p

Happy Trails!

I think I read where California let the PT Cruiser pass as a "truck" because of an interior space rule; if there can be a certain interior space storage area by folding or removing seats, then the vehicle can be classified as a truck. I often call my Caravan a truck which my wife corrects me as she says it should be referred to as a "van". So, if California is right, a Pat can be referred to as a truck but I think the name "Jeep" is more appropriate because my wife would call it a jeep and I always agree with my wife ... on the smaller decisions!
