I just got my bug shield and installed everything as instructions say, BUT of course, such as some other Pat owners experienced, my hood wont close now...I adjusted the bump stops and that didn't seem to work.....I came inside and did some site digging and came across someone with the same issue, thinking it was the wheather stripping

Turns out, the owner took it back to the dealership and adjusted they adjusted the hood latch and all is fine and dandy for that guy now...

I have No plans on going to the dealer for this so was wondering if theres a simple walkthrough on it or is it self explanatory? I need to make sure I play with whats needed and not mess with it too much

Any help is appreciated

Well, being as impatient as I am , i decided to go and figure out adjusting the hood latch, in which i did..I highered it to than realize I need to lower it in which I did...Not only is the opening that much more tighter but it still has not resolved my issues

anybody?

Without seeing how you installed it, I can't 100% determine the issue. I had similar problem when installing mine. I had to re-position the deflector and drill two new holes. I also had to adjust all four hood stoppers (two plastic ones in the front and two metal ones in the back).

In what wĂ y did you reposition the shield...did you oush it up more? I set of my up against the hood right on it

Ok, i finally decided to give up for the day and reattempt tomorrow and start from scratch.. so, I removed it from the hood and put things back to where they were

In doing so I realized, it does not necessarily have to sit compltely fush up against the edge of the hood....The Pieces of plastic that get drilled into the hood have a slight bend to them...Sitting flush up against the hood does not allow for it to sit completely contoured on the inside of the hood itself. Moving it forward about 1/4" outward would probably allow for the plastic to sit flush allowing the hood to close....In theory that is..I think I now know the_jeep_now was referring to..It's days like this that I wish I had a garage...Oh well.

@ Blondiblue.....Maybe this will help you

Will update tomorrow..Thanks Fellas

Looking good. What was the final adjustmet(s)? Did you just move it a little forward?

Sent from AutoGuide.com App

When I went back to apply it, I moved it upward (away from the edge of the hood) enough so the bent plastic piece (that gets drilled into the hood) barely touches the wheather stripping allowing the creese in the plastic to better conform to the hood

As stated earlier, if you peg the shield up against the edge of the hood, the creese in the plastic will not conform to the bend in the hood causing the hood not to close completely This is where frustation and throwing it into the back of the garage comes from :smiley_thumbs_up:

Hope this helps

Dredging up an old thread here. I just went through pains last night trying to get mine installed! Same issue as here, I think. Man....I just did a Chevy 350 engine swap a couple weekends ago without a hitch and this $#$^& bugshield had me feeling like a mutant!:confused:
The one I have is through Weathertech but it looks to be the exact same one.
I thought it strange that when it's aligned and seated to look just right, there's a big channel in the shield that wraps around and over the weather stripping! I thought....that's not right, but it sure fits well and looks good! Sure enough...<clunk>...the hood won't close and it's sitting on the shield where it wraps around under the hood. Fifteen minutes with a putty knife on the sticky tape and I got it off. Now I have the 4 'extra' holes like others.
I had the sticky tape bumped right up against the inside edge of the weather stripping. I guess I had to rock the whole thing so far forward that it needs to be in front of the stripping so the hood latches. Sure seemed like that would put it at a really odd angle but I'll check it out tonight. The directions are really generic and don't mention the Patriot but other cars.
Guess I should stick to ratchets, cherry pickers and air tools and leave the double sided sticky tape to the pros!

EDIT!: Just got a call from Weathertech and she apologized for the error on the website and shipping the wrong piece but she says that the bug deflector won't work on the 2014????????? Really? I told her that the Patriot hasn't changed in years and if it fits a 2013, it should also fit the 2014! Was there really a hood change for 2014? Does anyone here have one on their 2014 and what brand did you get????? I thought that this was an AVS sold by Weathertech.... Hmmmmmmmmmm..........

Update: Bug deflectors worked fine. Have to contact Weathertech tomorrow to let them know that all is good and don't change their website. They fit a 2014, you just have to work them in under the weatherstripping and all is good!:banana:
