but manual does have instructions for programing 3rd key,
all i recall is must have other 2 keys to program 3rd key,

Page 17 of the ’08 Owners manual Note: "ON" means "RUN" position not "ACCESORY". Just don't crank it.

Customer Key Programming
If you have two valid sentry keys, you can program new sentry keys to the system by performing the following procedure:
1. Cut the additional Sentry Key Transponder blank(s) to match the ignition switch lock cylinder key code.
2. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position for at least 3 seconds, but no longer than 15-seconds. Then, turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position and remove the first key.
3. Insert the second valid key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position within 15 seconds. After ten seconds, a chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light will begin to flash. Turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position and remove the second key.
4. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds, a single chime will sound. In addition, the Vehicle Security Alarm Indicator Light will stop flashing. To indicate that programming is complete, the indicator light will turn on again for 3 seconds and then turn off. The new Sentry Key is programmed.
The Keyless Entry Transmitter will also be programmed during this procedure. Repeat this procedure to program up to 8 keys. If you do not have a programmed sentry key, contact your dealer for details.

NOTE: If a programmed key is lost, see your dealer to have all remaining keys erased from the systems
memory. This will prevent the lost key from starting your vehicle. The remaining keys must then be reprogrammed. All vehicle keys must be taken to the dealer at the time of service to be reprogrammed.

Where on eBay did you find these? I'd like to get one or two.

Thanks in advance. :)

I got my key with the remote lock on it too for $65, $120 from the dealer. I search for Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass stuff just to see whats out there. You may also want to check ACE Hardware if you have one locally. When I looked for mine back in Dec of '06 they didn't have it for the Compass but showed the "chip" key for many other Jeeps. Patriot and Compass may be available now.

Watch out for the keys that have already been cut, I've seen those on there too!

Thank you. I just ordered three. :)

couple of quick questions here: Do I need to get the blank like the keys I have? Meaning, I have 2 with the built in keyless entry on the head of the key, do I need to order one like that or can I just get the standard key? Also, where do you bring your keys to be cut, can you take them to a hardware store(or Home Depot or something like that...) or is it something the dealer has to do? Thanks.

If I have remote start on my jeep (aftermarket Viper system), do I really need to keep the original key fob? Would I be able to take it apart and get rid of it all except for the key? I am tired of having to carry the original key fob and my Viper remote all in one keychain.

If it were me...... I would buy a transponder key and save the original key fobs for later use.
You may not always have the viper alarm.....
Also you can't just keep the metal blade part of the key because you need the transponder part...

Also can I get away with just one response or do I need to do it twice since you asked it twice.... LOL
Just kidding
