I made the plunge last night. A new 07 FDII with 500 test drive km's on it. I'm kind of sad to see my 96 Jimmy go to the dealer for $500, but didn't want to deal with selling an old gas guzzler with very few options.

Yes, the hood is loose.
Yes, the tow wiring harness is missing - but I've asked for it.
No, I don't have a sunroof, so it doesn't leak!
Yes, I've got a 2" hitch on order that I'll install myself.
Yes, I'd love to add on the 2" lift, although will drive it for a while first to see if I really need it.

One thing you guys didn't mention - the crossbars on the roof rack are really good and solid! My Jimmy had flimsy plastic factory crossbars that I put Thule's over.

I spent the last 3 weeks reading everything I could on this site. The stress is slowly wearing off, but I still have to go make my downpayment today, then it should all be gone and I can go have fun in my Patriot!

PS - Truck-a-dactyl is his name. I've owned a Truck-a-saurus (86 4X4 Blazer with mudders and bush bars) and a Truck-a-doodle (96 4X4 S10 Jimmy which looked more like a minivan - aka James). Truck-a-dactyl is kind of the velociraptor version - even though it's car based, I think I'll be pretty happy with it's off-road capability - mostly logging roads, not rock-crawling.

My philosophy has always been ....the faster you go the faster you get over the bump!:D Also, if you travel fast enough, you actually only hit the face of the bump and you can fly over the rest of it, making it a smoother transition.:wow:

I hear ya, Jay! That's what I've always done with the Jimmy. But I did rattle my ears off on my first speedbump without the salesguy accompanying me.

I think I'll slow down. :(

There probably is a reason the speed bumps are put there; sometimes there might be a stop sign ahead or there might be pedestrian traffic up ahead, etc. I go over speed bumps at the slow rate because I view the bumps as a safety warning. As far as being easier on the vehicle, I have no idea whether it is or not.

we have 'traffic calming' on some roads. speed limit is 50 kph, but people were doing 70+ on them, so they put in speed humps. I'm not talking about mall parking lots.

Heckler,

Congrats on finally getting the Patriot... You should know the drill by now... Get some pics posted when you can...
