I finally took delivery of my 2008 Patriot Limited 4x4 last Thursday . I've been reading many threads and trying features out on my Jeep...but I have a few questions I need clarified:

1. To remind you, I have the 5-Speed Transmission, with the FDI package, can't get the FDII in a standard (perhaps this is the reason): With the ESP feature, I've read numerous posts about Full On, Partial Off, and Completely OFF. The owner's manual speaks of all three and how to get from one to the other. My dilemma: ESP is "On by Default" (No Light), when I quickly press the "ESP OFF" button , it illuminates in the dash the "ESP Indicator light" (A car w/ squiggly lines), which suggests it is partially off. I cannot, for the life of me, get it to display the "ESP OFF" on the dash...no matter how long I hold the button, it just simply shows the indicator light of the car w/ squiggly lines going ON and OFF...NOTHING ELSE?

2. There is a tiny green light that illuminates below the Driver's side Power window button labeled "Auto". None of the other three buttons on the pwer switch light up, as well as, the other power window buttons on the three other doors. Is this Normal? It appears like there is a place for the light, but no light. :(

I'm sure I'll have a few more questions, but I'll post them as they come along. Thanks, in advace, for your input.

You have to have the car turned on but not moving at all to turn the esp all the way off. Stop the car, leave running and then hold the button in for 5-10 seconds and "esp off" should appear on the dash. Jeep says 5 seconds I believe but mine takes closer to 8-10 seconds (or maybe I just count fast)
I can't help with the window problem because I have the manual windows.
Hope this helps!

I was sitting in the garage with the engine running and held it for a LONG time(emergency brake off, foot brake applied to keep from rolling)...did they change the ESP feature in 2008?

Steffy,
Mine is a 2007 manual. I wonder if they did change it in 2008? Does it give instructions in the manual? I know that in my manual esp information was listed in two different places and it took me awhile to figure it out. :confused:I would check in with your service department. The dealership where I bought mine knew next to nothing about the esp and I have since changed to another.
Good luck! I'll check back to see what you find out.

It's me again...the only other thing I can think of is..start car, keep in nuetral, parking brake engaged and foot off of the brake, then hold button in.

Thanks for your help. I'll give another crack at it...but I followed the manual to the letter, but had no success. :( I'll let you know.

Anyone got any input to the 2nd question about the window switch?

I looked at what is supposed to be the 2008 Owner's Manual that I downloaded from Jeep.com and it says what you say, stopped, engine running and press the switch for five seconds and you should get the ESP Off light.

I'll check mine on the acceptance test ride when it comes in and see what happens. Unfortunately, that will be another three or four weeks.

It sounds like an issue for the dealer.

I'm getting a Sport E, so may not be able to help with question 2.

1. With ESP fully on press and hold the ESP button for 6 or 7 seconds. You will hear a bing sound and you will have the ESP fully off and see the message "ESP OFF" on your EVIC (where your speedometer is).

2. This is normal, only the driver has this. Mine is exactly the same way.

ESP & DRL

Steffy,
I checked mine and you do get the bing sound. Also the car with the squiggly lines stays and it's to the right of that that it says esp off.
We'll I checked mine again and again. Simply NO SOUND and NO "ESP OFF" lights up...I've tried everything...I'll be checking with the dealer for sure why this is...perhaps a change in the 2008's. Does anyone else have an 08 Limited 4x4 w/manual tranny close to my build date of 1/08 (per label in door jamb)? If so, how does your Patriot repsond to the "ESP Off" Button. Mine surely does not do what the manual says.

One other thing...I thought Daytime running lights were Standard on the Limited...not a big deal to me as I would prefer they not be on all of the time, but I do not have the DRL either...I'm wondering once more if this is a change on the 08's or If I've got unresolved issues with my Pat...any input? NEVER MIND ON THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS...IT'S PART OF THE SECURITY & CONVENIENCE GROUP, WHICH I DID NOT GET...

2008 5-speed, same ESP routine as 2007...

Greetings S,

I have an 08, 5-speed (red like yours too!), and the ESP off routine works just the same as the 07. Mine works fine, I can even turn it off while the Jeep is rolling (under 5 km/h).

Dealer time, me thinks...

Windows, yep, we do have a bit of a beef with that, only the driver's window switch is illuminated (boy, that sure saved them a lot of money...), that's the way they are made.

Cheers,

Hello Spencer,

Yes, take it to the dealer. You should be able to "fully" disable ESP. That is important when the conditions make it necessary to do so.

Just to double check:

When the ESP is on (default when you start the Patriot), hold down the ESP button for 7 seconds +/-

You should see the yellow icon light showing the car with two "squiggly" lines as someone so nicely put it. You should also see an "ESP OFF" message on your EVIC (where your speedometer is located).

If this does not work go to your dealer and ask them to fix it up, could be a simple programming change.

I stopped by the dealer today and asked about the ESP and if there were any changes to how it's supposed to function (see previous posts for a detailed description). They weren't aware of any changes to the programming. While I was there, they had a brand new Compass that was delivered the same day as mine on the lot. It too is 4x4 w/ manual transmission. I asked for the keys to check to see how it responded to the "ESP OFF" button. It, too, does the same thing as mine (does not display "ESP OFF" with a sound like the manual says)

I decided to wait until the first scheduled oil change before having them look at it (killing 2 birds with one stone). In the meantime, the dealer is going to look at the compass that is on the lot to determine if it is functioning properly or not. Perhaps they'll have an answer for me when I go in for the oil change.

I'll let you know the outcome.
