just to point out cb in australia is uhf 471mhz, as opposed to hf 27mhz in the states, the antenna for ours is about a foot long;)(9db gain)
yeah we have both Cb(27Mhz) and UHF here in Aus, but mine is UHF, far more popular here now.
I have self esteem issues since selling the skyline and bought a 900mm 6.5 Db fibreglass antenna.

Concerning the space below the radio. How did you run your coax and power lines. How did you remove the black holder? And did you drill out holes to fit the wires?
I was planning to drill holes in it, but had to cut a fair section out to fit the unit in.
The black pocket is attached to the facsia panel pretty well. It has the lugs melted and bent over.
I snapped them all off, cut the pocket as needed, put everything back together to test for fit etc, then glued it back on.

I'm thinking of installing the following amp. I have the 120 amp alternator in my Pat. Will I have problems? What is the best way to install it. Your thoughts. Or is there another amp I should be looking at?

RM Italy KL - 40 watt linear amplifier. It features:

On/Off/ Power switch

Operating mode - AM/FM/SSB

Requires 1-5 watts on AM/FM and 2-10 watts on SSB to drive this unit

Requires a 5 amp 12-14 volt power supply

Output power is 25-30 watts on AM/FM and 35-55 watts on SSB

Features 1 - 5A fuse

Radio and Jumper Cable Setup - Anderson PowerPoles

Here is my setup on the Patriot: Two feeds from the battery.

One is fused @ 20 amps with a blade fuse holder (couple dollars from auto supply store) into anderson powerpole which feeds in behind the glove box for Ham radio or CB or whatever. It terminates to another powerpole. (pictures one and two)

Two is is 8 gauge welding cable with 175 amp power pole straight to the battery for the jumper cables or higher amperage needs. Jumper cables just plug into this powerpole for jump starts - no need to remove the air duct to access the battery terminals for jump starts. :) (picture three)

Thanks for the pics! I have the 120 amp alternator. How many watts are you running with your amp? Did you run the power through the same back window washer location in the firewall as the coax? I've read that the power should not run beside the coax. (Love this forum.):pepper:

Be sure and get some 3M clear bra scraps from a local shop and put them on your vehicle under where you want the magnet mount to sit - it will help keep it from scratching up your ride. I just did this for my ham radio mounts and it appears to be a good idea.

As for mounting the radio - there isn't a good spot. I just spent about 2 hours sitting in our patriot trying to figure out where to mount the ham radio. Best option I can find is right on top of the dash above the radio.

Kelly - what radio are you trying to mount. I have mounted FT100D in mine, with the remote head covering the hole under AM/FM radio.

This is an excellent setup gnihcraes. I can speak for the anderson powerpole connectors and they are great for swapping gear in/out.

Wanted to put in my Icon V-8000 (2 meter vhf) but it won't fit in the dash pocket. So I'm probably going to mount it on top of the dash where the NAV system would be in a vehicle so equipment. (mine doesn't have NAV). I'm just not keen on the radio being seen/visible for theft reasons. But I will make some holes on top of the dash (before the wife catches me)

Was wishing for extra money here at Christmas to purchase a remote head dual band of some sorts, but no cash came my way. Which is ok. I'll make do with my v8000. I don't normally use it in the family vehicle anyway, too much noise and conversations happening. I just don't like having a vehicle without radio capabilities. Especially on a longer trip to visit inlaws and such.
