Hi fellas

Bought a Patriot 2011 limited auto top spec. However, i am concerned with the quality of the body work. At first i thought the car must have been damaged and poorly repaired. But someone told me that its just how Jeep make them cars. Is that true? Im talking about poor paint finish, big cracks in the paint etc. I mean this is a 2 year old car.

I dont know anyone with another Patriot to compare and the nearest Jeep showroom is too far.

Can you guys confirm this?

I will take a few photos to show what i mean tonight.

That doesn't sound right to me. Did you get an HPI check?

My Patriot is an early 07 and the bodywork is as good as any car of that level.

If you bought it from a dealer, maybe they would like to comment.

Just thought. Try running a magnet across to see if there is filler in there.

I bought it from a big car dealer but not a jeep dealer. They just took the car in part exchange and then sold it to me. They say that the car HPI clear and they are not aware of any accidents or problems. The previous owner also claims that there were no accidents.

But the photos show the funny quality. Also, one photo is showing a wheel archc and you can see a silver spray there, all four. I would have expected more from Jeep. My dad had a 2007 grand cherokee and it was proper quality, so i thought thst Patriot is cheaper, so perhaps different quality?

Any comments on the photos?

The only point of concern I see is the rust on the hinge other than that those all look to either be seams or door sills, the seam will never be perfect and the door sill they probably figure won't be a big factor in the overall cosmetics of the vehicle as it is generally viewed. These aren't signs of shoddy work IMO.

Are the door sills and seams on your patriot look the same?

I see nothing unusual in any of those pictures. The rusty door hinge is common among Patriots along with rusty wheel hubs. A little Fluid Film in these areas should prevent further corrosion. Paint over or under spray sometimes happens lets just hope its in out of sight areas.

In the back hatch of my Pat I also found sloppy application of weld seam adhesive with micro cracks or holes that I thought might allow water to seep in. I just black siliconed everything and with a black Pat it all blends in nicely to the point you can't tell it was touched up.

When you come to realization just how cheaply made the Patriot is with its low cost entry point is when concerns like these are a bit easier to stomach.

Could you explain this for me pls
Before I saw your pics, I thought you were referring to the exterior body panels where dents are sometimes filled with P38 type of stuff. Americans (I think) call it Bondo. As its non metallic, a magnet won't stick to it.

In you're case, the seams look pretty normal to me. I can't recall any car I've seen to be any better than that as its not normally visible. However, maybe I just can't see the problem from the pics.

If you see another Patriot, flag it down and compare.

Good luck.

BTW, the silver overspray may be from scuffs on the wheels being blown in. You can use T Cut to get rid of that.

yep, those are normal pinch weld bindings, but they are not properly done from a cosmetic point of view.
that is jeep quality at this level.
you won't find those on a GC or a Wrangler.
what bothers me is that i have seen vehicles that in theory are cheaper or at least the same level with the MK's,and this is not present.
my previous renault scenic rx4 (and you know what i am talking about as you are in the uk and it is a frequent model there) was finished with higher elegance than the pat.

my dad bought a dacia duster suv in may 12.

the quality seems higher than jeep's.everything is finished to the detail.

That Dacia will probably mean the death of small jeeps in UK . Dont forget the Patriot was built down to a Price not up to a quality . This made it a bargain in USA but Mopar was greedy in UK & pitched Dodge . Chrysler , Jeep prices against much higher quality vehicles available in uk . Hence Dodge diappeared, Chryslers are rebadged Lancia/s & Jeep has very limited sales . My Patriot was good, useful , economical ( In diesel form ) & fun to drive . However itwas made from thin gauge steel with thin floppy plastic bumper covers & a cheap low rent plastic interior ( But very wipe down easy clean ) Anyone who bought a brand new Jeep in UK was onto a loser ---but made a great used buy.I do miss the " Yes Essential " fabric seats --one of the most comfortable car seats I have sat on . Its all horses for courses & you gets what you pay for . Dont forget the patriot wes deleted in UK 2 yrs ago & Jeep dealers have lost interest in it !!

The Duster is a Patriot Clone ..BUT>>>Half the Price ...Bargain !!
