Had a chance to get the Patriot into snow this past week. And I will say that I always thought that my past car - a Subaru Impreza - was the best in snow.

But now there is a new champion!

It's unreal how well the Patriot is in snow. Every car (including other jeeps - wrangler, cherokee, liberty) I have ever driven in snow always does that pull when one tire hits deeper snow than the other tires. The Patriot doesnt. It just tracks straight. And I havent even tried turning off the ESP or locking in 4x4.

I have to start being careful of "black ice" tho - I have a feeling that it's going to be tough to "feel" it in the Patriot.

that's good to hear! i was looking at the subaru forester as a possibility when i was looking at compact SUV type vehicles. glad i went with the jeep :D

That would most likely give you your wheel pulling sensation back if you really miss it...

Is that what helps the pull? I was wondering what the difference was. Since the SUbaru does have one of the best AWD systems, I figured that it wouldnt do that. But it did.

It would be interesting to have both cars and drive them back to back in the same terrain.

I was tooling around in a fair amount of crap this past weekend. Nothing horribly deep; maybe 3" at most (the plows stayed on top of things, but it came down pretty fast, so many roads were quite iffy). I went ahead and locked it into 4x4 mode, and the thing just kept on going. No slippage, no sliding. Of course, you still need to drive conservatively, but it would have to take an amazing amount of snow to stop the Patriot.

Around here Suby's are equated with retired folks, hippies and nature lovers.

You know... smart, sensible people.

:)

um, i don't even know how to respond to the whole subaru/lesbian thing. i think that's completely ridiculous.

It started with the Martina (the tennis player) commercial for Subarus...Wranglers (YJs) have the same rep for some...
Hmm..I thought she sponsored Snap-On Tools. My bad ;)

It is one of Subaru's recognized demographics. A guy I know used to be the regional factory rep, and he told me that their main demographics for marketing were people living in the snow belt and people in the GLBT (but mainly lesbian) community. I'm not sure how that came to be (the GLBT, the snow belt is easy to see), but it is what it is. Still though, just because somebody drives a Subie doesn't mean they're gay; stereotyping based on cars is a waste of time.

Unless it is a guy driving a chick car. Then he's a wuss. :D

...Or, just perhaps, driving his girlfriends car for some reason? ;)

Hmm. I did drop by Subarus website while reading up on what vehicle to buy. The Forester seems one of the better choices if one were to buy a station wagon. Does this make me a lesbian trapped in a man's body? :D
