Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I was a member over at jeepforum, but since buying the Pat I find this site is used pretty often. My biggest annoyance was the key and after reading everyone's great advice/pictures I gave it go....
I have a 2012 FDII Pat with the auto-start feature. I purchased the four button shell off of amazon for $10 (link below). Install was fairly simple, but a couple of tips:
1) I received a small phillips screwdriver for the 2 screws on the flip key. I noticed that there was a high potential for stripping so I used a small flat head instead.
2) The piece of metal that holds the battery in the Jeep key has to be transferred to the flip key. Someone earlier suggested using a dap of glue to keep it in place because the flip key does not have the same clips. I used plain old Elmer's and it worked very well.
3) I found "winding" the key was slightly difficult so it will spring when the button is pushed. I found a website that had some pics and a short description that was very helpful for a similar flip key conversion. I can't post links - but it was from 8th civic which must be a Honda forum.
4) The fourth button has a picture of a hatch. The buttons do not appear to be transferable because they are all connected on a piece of rubber, so unless you want to try and cut the Jeep auto-start button out, my auto-start button is now a picture of an open car hatch - no biggie.
Home depot then cut the key for free using the Jeep mold. Lowes would not try it at all.
Overall, I am VERY happy with the conversion and really appreciate everyone's input.
I bought the key from a user called "bestfavor" on Amazon.
Hope this helps!
