Nice! I didn't see a 4 button option. I might consider this now....

For some reason, I though you swap the key blade as well as the electronics, but I guess you have to get the blade cut instead?

When you have made the switch take your now existing empty shell key or better yet use your spare one which is less worn along with the flip key and get it cut. Its as simple as that.

I haven't tried taking it apart yet but I'll do so this weekend and report back.

Now why would that be? What did Chrysler do to the 2011 keys that are different previous years?

Anyone...anyone....Beuller...Beuller!!
My 2011 key looks just like the picture in the auction, however maybe the seller just hasnt updated the adaptable years list or maybe because the remote start button has a pic of a hatch opening instead of just the "X2" on the oem key.Just guessing. This would definitely be a good mod to do.I hate my oem key! Why the heck would Jeep offset the key ring off to one side of the key?It makes it sit funny on my belt clip keyring and it dont fit into the ignition right but one way when you have a key ring on it with other keys since the extra keys kinda hinders you from twisting the ignition if you have the key buttons pointed toward the dash.

I just typed in "jeep flip key" into ebay and had the lowest listed first. There appears to be 4 button versions for as low as $9.The key fob looks identical to the patriot key but each sellers listing is different and each listing doesnt really have a complete list of adaptable vehicles.I willing to bet that no one has a full list of all the chryslers vehicles in any listing that this key fob can fit.I would say order one of the one for $9 that appears to be the correct one for you (3 button or 4 button) and if it dont work well your only out a couple bux.

Well its done and its not as easy as it seems. When you open up the flip key everything just basically falls out so trying to figure out how everything goes back takes some studying. When trying to put the halves together all the components kept falling out. I used some glue to hold the new flip rubber pad. Also when you remove the battery you also have to remove the metal battery clip which is held in place with 3 small plastic tabs. I peeled them back with my finger nail and it pops right out. When installing it into the flip base it just didn't want to clip in place so I glued that down too. Once I figured out the button, spring position you have to catch the spring by moving the one half of the casing around and then together with the base. Once it matched up and snappped together test the blade to make sure you have enough tension and the key comes out with some force. Once done place the metal key chain anchor on the end and tighten down both screws. Now its off to the locksmith for the cutting.:D

While I was waiting to receive the flip key I had emailed the vendor for better instructions and he sent me a link to a video for a peugeot flip key transfer. Install is very similar minus the peugeot chip which is a spearate piece.

Sorry its in Chinese but you'll get the gist:

Took the flip key to a locksmith to get cut and right off the bat he tells me that he has done many of these keys that come from China and your chance of it working is 50/50. Well for $5 I took the chance and luckily it works.

Now we'll see how long it lasts, but for a total cash outlay of $18 who cares!!:D

I'll post pictures of the keys side by side tonight and you'll see how the flip key is not as pointy.

I just about ordered one of these keys off ebay.I would need the 4 button version however the cheapest one listed in a 4 button version for the pat is $30bux. I did do some more searching just by typing in "jeep flip key" into ebay and they do sell the 4 buttons for as low as 9bux and they look just like the $30 version ones but they werent listed for the Pat for compatibility.I wonder why? I am thinking that the 9 dollar 4 button versions that dont have the Pat as being compatible may be shorter or longer than the one actually listed for the Pat.Possibly the metal part(that needs to be cut) is longer on some vehicles compared to others perhaps?

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I was a member over at jeepforum, but since buying the Pat I find this site is used pretty often. My biggest annoyance was the key and after reading everyone's great advice/pictures I gave it go....

I have a 2012 FDII Pat with the auto-start feature. I purchased the four button shell off of amazon for $10 (link below). Install was fairly simple, but a couple of tips:

1) I received a small phillips screwdriver for the 2 screws on the flip key. I noticed that there was a high potential for stripping so I used a small flat head instead.

2) The piece of metal that holds the battery in the Jeep key has to be transferred to the flip key. Someone earlier suggested using a dap of glue to keep it in place because the flip key does not have the same clips. I used plain old Elmer's and it worked very well.

3) I found "winding" the key was slightly difficult so it will spring when the button is pushed. I found a website that had some pics and a short description that was very helpful for a similar flip key conversion. I can't post links - but it was from 8th civic which must be a Honda forum.

4) The fourth button has a picture of a hatch. The buttons do not appear to be transferable because they are all connected on a piece of rubber, so unless you want to try and cut the Jeep auto-start button out, my auto-start button is now a picture of an open car hatch - no biggie.

Home depot then cut the key for free using the Jeep mold. Lowes would not try it at all.

Overall, I am VERY happy with the conversion and really appreciate everyone's input.

I bought the key from a user called "bestfavor" on Amazon.

Hope this helps!

an actual link to the same key you bought would be helpful! there are different length 4 button keys that fit different chrysler models. Not all 4 button keys are the same length

are the ones on amazon and ebay the same? would these both work on a 2011 pat? I like the idea of a flip key, my jeep key is making holes in my jeans on back pocket.
From what it appears to me,the Ebay ones are lacking on information on how long the key is.This may be why all the keys look the same but only fit certain applications even though it looks identical to your own key.The length of the actual key part is the "key" element (forgive the pun) to determine which flip key fits your vehicle.Apparently not all Jeep key are the same length even if the button part looks identical.
