Check TPM System

Fellows - I started getting this "Check TPM System" message out of the blue a few weeks ago when I start up my Patriot. Ok, so maybe there's a problem with the system and it's a warning to go get it looked at, but what's odd is that it's reading all the tire pressures fine, so there doesn't appear to be any problem with the system beyond this message appearing.

Any insights or suggestions?

Well with that it could be numerous things, one of the batteries in the tp sensors may have a low battery and not responding to the computer properly, could be an internal fault of the tpms, is the tire light on dash flashing or is it steady, could also be your wcm causing the light to go on

thanks CJM, I thought about those wireless transmitters on the wheels and that sooner or later their batteries will need replacement. It's five and a half years old now, so maybe they're just due. No tire light at all and everything else seems to be working fine, including the actual tire pressure readings.

Fellows, it may have been a weak battery (!)

Was at the dealership where they ran a quick diagnosis on my Patriot to find the reason why it recently staled, and almost staled another time. They said the codes can back clean but that the car also stalled on them while idling, and that the battery was so weak it was almost dead.

Had them swap the battery (and the Jeep hasn't stalled yet since) and strangely the TPM error also disappeared. So I guess either the system was very sensitive to amperage changes, or that when they checked for codes it may have flushed it clear. It's also possible that when they swapped batteries that the temp loss of power somehow cleared it.

So FamilyGuy, might want to check your battery too ...

Modern batteries don't last as long as we'd all like them to.

Our lifestyles have us (usually) with high electrical usage, short charging cycles and I don't think they are made the same.

I realize this is a very old post but for anyone searching the answer now i thought i would post. It sounds like your jeep displays the pressures like mine. The jeep uses sensors in the wheel wheel to determine which wheel is where. This seems to be where the issue lies. The pressures read but the jeep cant figure out which tire is where.
