Ok almost every professional reviewer of the Jeep Patriot/Compass has said how bad the CVT is. Why not have conventional automatic they said? So for 2014...drumroll please...the Patriot/Compass duo get the Hyundai sourced 6 speed auto and now another reviewer has said he would stay away from it :wow:

At least he said he was thinking about buying a Patriot!

Here is another negative review of the 2013 model (just for kicks)!

http://www.trucktrend.com/roadtests...adtests/crossover/163_1210_2013_jeep_patriot_latitude_4x4_first_test/index.html

I have been so impressed with the Patriot that Toyota just might not get my business next time (when I get ready to trade my car).

For real my 2013 feels so solid and well made. Even though I hated the CVT at first it's starting to grow on me. I just wish it was a little quicker off the line at times.

On the first link, the writer seems unaware that you can buy the 5 speed manual trans-axle in all models including Limited. He also is confused about the fact that only the Trail Rated FDII Patriot will keep the CVTII with the low speed crawl ratio.

It is crazy to me how much incorrect information I read about the Patriot in the news! I agree with SteveReject...we liked our 2011 Patriot but LOVE the 2013 with the 2.4L engine. Seems to be well made and the CVT just takes some getting used to. I drove my brother-in-law's 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the 5 speed auto Saturday, I did not like the way it drove; felt way more sluggish than the Patriot!

WOW.. I feel the opposite. My 2013 Wrangler Unlimited 6-speed stick feels way more potent than my old 2011 5-speed stick. But then again thats stick shift not CVT vs auto.

I believe 2012 was the first year with the Pentastar 3.6L engine; I heard the older engine wasn't very powerful. I'm sure the 6-speed is way better than the automatic. I just had to press it to the floor to get it to go and the engine just felt underpowered to me; maybe because I'm accustomed to the way a 4 cylinder engine operates.

Yes the 2007-2011 Wranglers had the piece of crap 3.8L I had a 09 4 door and loved it but just couldnt handle the engine, it was rediculous on the highway. I have since driven 4 or 5 2012 wranglers and it is soo much different. Just a joy on the highway now.

When my dad got his 2011 patriot I didnt even know it was a CVT, I still drive it once a week and dont have any complaints. I do enjoy my 5 speed though in my 2012!

Just bought a 2013 2.4L CVT for Christmas and absolutely loving it. Before we made the purchase we researched everything in the Patriots market. If you are going strictly by the numbers and the reviews out there, there a couple makes/models that are pretty appealing. HOWEVER, we couldn't stand any of the body styles we were looking at. They all looked ridiculous to me. Call me old fashioned but I want a box with wheels on it, spare me the space age look and mini-van characteristics, plz. Can anyone seriously tell me the Patriot doesn't look cooler!?!? ;)

I have never had a Toyota and never plan to buy one (or a Nissan, Honda, etc.). Not that I think they are a bad cars, it just seems that people feel (probably because of reviewers like that one) that unless it is Japaneese, you shouldn't but it. It makes me absoutley sick, so I will go out of my way to avoid them and buy American! This is my 2nd Jeep, so I will probably never buy anything else other that a Jeep now...

all you wish for is to hear the shifting of gears. Our figure-eight performance was underwhelming with lots of body-roll

Yeah, I'd love to go from my smooth CVT to the shift shock of a standard slushbox. :icon_rolleyes: Also it's an SUV ffs, it's going to have body roll in a figure 8.

As I read the first review, honestly the person that wrote it seem to derive his opinions from what he/she had read from press releases or other reviewers. I didn't get the impression that the person had actually driven one at all.

It seemed more of what you would run across in a forum from a hater than an automotive journalist.

Wanted to get rid of my 07 Jap Frontier with lots of problems. Looked the Forester,Escape and Murano. nothing appealed me and bad trades to boot. Went to a Friend at the local Jeep dealer and he talked me into a 2013 Patriot Latitude. First drive I fell in love. Back in a Jeep finally! The CVt does take some getting used to and I don't like the high highway revs. But, the first time in a bad situation loading stuff on a steep incline after a weekend of fishing, she climbed up and out the spot without a spin. SWEET Back in a Jeep again!

I had a budget of $30,000 and test drove everything in that price range.
The patriot was not even on my radar due to all the negative press.
Quite by accident I passed by the dealer and decided to take a test drive,
and that was all it took.

I believe Chrysler missed an opportunity, and should of had an ad campaign
asking people to "Take the drive"
as ultimately it's by far the best sales tool they have.

The other point worth mentioning,
is no car can be all things to all people
and it helps to know what you are looking for,
as it makes it easier to know when you find it.

For me,
the basic sport model with the 5 speed transmission, and front wheel drive
is the perfect car (Jeep).

I also think that when they discontinue the Patriot in 2015
they will hold their value due to the classic and timeless design that I find so attractive.

Let the naysayers spout if they must,
but I am very happy with my 2013
and likely will for years to come.

how are they different ?
Our 2011 had the 2.0L engine and the 2013 has the 2.4L...big difference in the way it drives. Also the CVT is different; behaves a lot better. The 2013 is also equipped with the options we wanted.

gotcha, sounds like my 2011 is similar to your 2013 :)

I didn't read up on any compact cuv suv. I was coming from dentist and drove into Chrysler lot. I needed to have local service and fuel economy and long wheelbase for smooth ride. Dealer had 2 Pats and I chose tan interior. 19500 otd. Four wheel drive power group ax. Funny about Pats standard features. Cruise and all wheel disc and anti roll and traction control never gets mentioned. I don't trust reviews.
