Nice amount of choices, suz...good job:smiley_thumbs_up:

I wasn't sure which to click on though. We recently named it "Sasquatch", but when we refer to it when talking to other people, we call it the jeep.

Go figure.

1st place - JEEP

2nd place - SUV

i guess CUV makes more sense but SUV is the more popular name for vehicles such as jeeps :D

To the people that voted "The Jeep", do you exclusively use that term?

"I'll drive, we can take my Jeep to lunch."
"I'll pick you up in my Jeep."
In a parking lot, "I can't find my Jeep".
"I just bought a new Jeep."

Just wondering. I was the sole voter thus far for "car". Although I have a friend that calls it a "truck", as he does every other SUV.

yep we call it "the jeep" because we have 3 [hopefully soon to be two] trucks, and well.. can't call it the truck cause "which one" .. the other two have names. The one we're about to pick up doesn't yet either [66 Chevy paneltruck], and neither does the jeep. < see i did it again. lol :D

sherman tank...

i call mine the jeep. this is my third jeep, having two cj's before, and i think its phenomenal. i always feel like im driving a small tank. when my granddad tells me the stories of him in wwII i always see similarities to the beloved little sherman tanks we used...

1. small and manueverable/go anywhere - do anything
2. ran on gas when they should have been diesel
3. looks great in green
4. held a special place in the hearts of those who drove them
5. despite small size and light armor they were able to get wins over the big ole behemoths the germies had

just my two cents. been stalking for awhile, great site.

Hey buddy..who writes your material. I'd fire their asz and find someone with a little more fresher material. For the life of me, I can't understand why I keep thinking of the word 'belligerent' everytime I see your lame comments and substandard humour.

I see you got yourself a Compass... BTW, weren't they marketed and targeted for the female market?

I bought my Patriot because the transmission died on my '02 Liberty (at 53,000 miles) and with the hope for better gas mileage.

I go fishing and hunting and tow a smaller boat but the roads generally aren't too horrible - might be 8" of dust and rocks sometimes and I could get through them in my Liberty generally without 4wd Hi even.

I saw a car mag story with photos about a Chrysler-built front-drive Australian pickup that used a Dodge Dakota body.

The reason it was front-drive was so the entire bed floor could lower to ground level between the rear wheels. Roll on the fridge or whatever, raise the bed floor up to normal height, and drive off. Cool!!

(I wonder what the handling was like. Mid 60's GMs with the cruciform-perimeter frames were pretty rubbery...)

Here in Gaspésie (Eastern quebec) specially in the french language spoken here all SUV or CUV are referred to as «Jeep», people ask «Where did you park your «Jeep?» although it's a hyundai Santa Fe. The reason is the same as why people call a paper handkerchief a «Kleenex». When the brand name finally represents the category...then you know you own the best, most renowned and most popular. This is a very high compliment for real Jeep owners which I'll be part of in June 2008. Mine will be called «The Jeep» for sure. Then everybody around here will be right calling it a «Jeep».:smiley_thumbs_up:

Why yes, I'm weird. Hopefully you noticed this much sooner than just now?

I was driving to the shooting range last weekend when those acronyms like SUV and CUV got me thinking...

Okay, now, Jeeps were originally military vehicles. The closest the Patriot gets to a military vehicle is having distant ancestors who've served, but let's not split hairs here. (In case you can't figure it out, I'm not exactly being 100% serious here... ;) )

The Patriot looks a lot more "militaryish" than one of your average giant running shoes that fill the streets. (The Pat actually looks waaay better in person than in photographs. :D Especially in black!)

This particular Patriot was driven by a technically active reservist of the Finnish Army (basically all I do in a voluntary reservist organisation is just maintain my safe shooters status for the Finnish 3-gun sport meant for military reserve personnel and go shooting by myself, but let's not split hairs again...).

And of course we had the pistols and ammunition and various other bits of kit in the trunk. (Alas, no AK this time since it was an indoor range we were going to.)

So obviously, what we have here is neither a Suburban Utility Vehicle nor a Compact Utility Vehicle, but rather a PUV - Para-military Utility Vehicle. :D

We are doing our best to call it "The JEEP" but at one time or another one of us will refer to it as the car or truck as in "where's the ..." in a parking lot. When asked what we drive our response is unanimosly "a Jeep Patriot". The more we drive it the more we love it! 7mos. 10,000mi. of pure bliss!
