To buy or not to buy... :)

Greets, just registered to ask few question on Patriot here.

Basically I'm looking at 2010 black/grey Pat with 18K miles for $13500.

here's carfax description :
2010 JEEP PATRIOT SPORT
4 DOOR WAGON/SPORT UTILITY
2.0L I4 SFI DOHC 16V
FRONT WHEEL DRIVE
Standard Equipment | Safety Options

My only concern is car pulls slightly to the right, dealer mentioned glowing ! on dashboard represents low pressure in right wheel. Second thing is while test-driving today on ~20mph right turn she made huge loud tire screeching painfull sounds :) Is that normal ? perhaps i'm spoiled with german cars where I can take sharp turns ~45mph soundless ? ;)

To sum everything up dealer promised to fix pull by bringing mechanic and/or performing alligment... Should i keep looking for cars or this is it ?

low tire pressure would squeal, no?

and also pull, no?

otherwise sound like a fair price.....have them to a bow to stern investigation for you and bring your own mech....if u could.

18K miles for $13500....meh, not bad at all.

The only thing i would say about this patriot that would make me stay away is the 2.0 engine...it gets very similar mileage to the 2.4 engine but the 2.4 as i have heard from many is much more adequate for the patriot...many would like even bigger engines, me included. But obviously thats up to you to decide.

I have the 2.0 my self, and its ok. Im not sure if the 14 more hp would make a huge difference, but I do believe it needs more power. I would like to see a 2.5 motor standard with about 190 hp, and maybe an optional V6. But it seems to be fine. Since the jeep, ive turned into a grandpa when it comes to driving anyways, LOL.

do you know a good mechanic? I would say that you base the sale off of a mechanics inspection if you do. and take it to their shop. I've bought a few cars that had seemingly big issues that were easy and cheap to fix, but was able to negotiate the price of the vehicle down due to a small issue. If it checks out, buy it, if not don't and if you don't have a mechanic, get one asap.

I don't think its just the horsepower. i think having a larger engine is the difference. The larger engine is more confident pulling the weight if that makes sense oh and i agree that i would love to see a V6 option and IMHO 190 hp is still not enough...i would like to see something like 240

I'd get 2.4L motor. Larger motor wouldn't have to work as hard to keep Patriot moving. I'd also get at least FDI as a lot of folks regretted they didn't. As the saying goes better have it and not need it than need it and not have it. AWD works awesome in poor weather conditions.

Why argue? The Patriot is slow with either the 2.0 or 2.4. Who cares? ;)

I suggest you skip it though...

Why not go find a brand new left over 2012 for a couple more grand?

A 2012 has better springs and updated interior/exterior.

Plus if you're financing you'll probably get a lower interest rate on a new car. :)

hahahaah agreed, but no one is arguing...we are just asserting our opions looool. and i agree that it would be better to get a 2012

Y'know,

I have the 2.4L with autostick and I really do not consider it a slow car. For my taste it has enough punch, but my wife is used to her 2003 Camry and it gets to sixty in about 8.4 seconds. She says the patriot is not as quick as her Camry, but in bad weather, rain or snow, it's the Patriot that is the car of choice. The heating system is better also. I guess it's a matter of what makes you happy.
