I made this thread on my Tacomas site and it was a pretty big hit. Post what you have in your Jeep, and compare it to what other people have. You can get some pretty great ideas!

I'll Start it out!

I have a bag with:
  • Toilet paper
  • First aid
  • Emergency money
  • an old cell phone
  • Compass
  • 2way radios
  • Fire starter
  • a knife
  • a flashlight
  • Rope
  • Pen
  • Blank Notebook
  • Duct Tape
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Mosquito Repellant
  • MRE's

Outside of the bag I keep:
  • Tools
  • Jumper cables
  • a knife
  • a flashlight

Cool topic!

I keep a bunch of stuff in my Jeep, let's see:

In the back:
First Aid kit
Medium sized LED flash light
Couple bungee nets
Bungee cord
Mexican blanket
Glock knife
Glock entrenching tool
Hydraulic bottle jack
Breaker bar w/19mm socket
Small air compressor
Tow strap
Jumper cables

Up front:
Small LED work light
Small flashlight
Swiss army knife
XD9 SC
Pen
Lighter
Multi tool
Napkins
Jeep knife

I really should keep some TP in there, and like the emergency money idea.

Oh, and the carbon monoxide sensor is still under my passenger seat... still no alarms from the Big Dump exhaust. ;)

Tool bag with tools in it. Motor oil, Ice scrapper.
GHB (Get home Bag)
Matches, E-tool, lighter, fire starters, chemlites, tow strap, several blankets, gloves, beanies, mechanix gloves, several flash lights, a few respirators, wool socks, a few heavy coats. MRE's, leatherman. first aid kit, water, tape, jb weld.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

very similar list Except....TP is crucial and i would not leave home without it.
Matter of fact in the warmer months, and on surfing safari I travel with a :

You can pop the radio bezel so easily...I keep emergency money in a 35mm film canister taped in there. Even with the radio installed there is room to hang it down low.

For me my cabin list is a box containing my various chargers, paperwork and etc. That gets spread out on the passenger seat while working. A plastic bucket, small, containing the tools I use. TP, Kleenex and etc stashed under/behind my seat.

Back hatch area has a three piece shovel in the spare tire well along with a star wrench, overalls, gloves and spare heavy sox and shirt. Candles AND firestarter logs, hatchet AND small bow saw. Matches AND Bic lighters AND a small torch. It gets wet and cold around here, dry and warm is job one if you break down in the bush.

ATV sized mesh net, fits perfectly across the cargo area and a cooler behind the passenger seat with food and drink, amount depending on the day's activities.

Additions as needed or wanted.

door pockets contain flashlights and trouble light...LED, along with a good folding knife and Leatherman tool (Can military issue, its a good one!)

console is empty except for a spare pair of glasses under the first lid.

An M16 assault rifle with bullet proof vest and several magazines...

and a knife.

Wow this is a really nice thread. I especially like the idea of emergency money.
When i finally get a vehicle i plan to keep mostly what you guys said bar the assult ryfle.....+ candles, waterproof matches, a blanket, a complete new pair of cloths, umbrella, BB Gun (not sure if that would get me in trouble) some type of non-perishable food like peanuts...cereal...some **** like that lol and also a few extra bottles of water and a hand shovel for digging out.

Just some really random items. A flashlight in the glove box, a flathead screwdriver and chargers in the center console, and a baseball bat, jumper cables, and a box of whiteboard chalk, a bungie, and a wire clothes hanger in the spare area. You know, the usual stuff.

I've got a bunch of tools, flashlight in the door, 2 tackle boxes, 4 fishing rods, toilet paper and phone book which is also toilet paper, hunting regs, deodorant, come along, bags of all kinds, tow strap, 5 gallon bucket, chargers for everything, jumper cables, pens, full sized axe with shovel, hatchet, and a bb gun for shooting rattlesnakes plus more but that's all I can think of

Mine is pretty barren.

-flashlight
-tire pressure gauge
-left over fast food napkins
-pen
-ice scraper/snow brush tucked in spare tire compartment
This is literally my exact list, plus tow strap, ratchet tie downs, and my Leatherman

Sent from my Nexus 4 using AutoGuide App

recovery strap (need to buy an extra one)
d-rings (leave them in the jeep, worry about them growing legs if I leave them on the bumpers)
TP
couple coats
hats
gloves
deet
knives
matches
lighters
firestarters (those blocks with magnesium you can shave off)
light duty first aid kit
flashlight
binoculars
umm.... I forget what else is in my offroad bag. It's packed and I just toss it in when I'm going offroad, or in the jeep in the winter and the hard top is on.

One thing I have that I find interesting and worth sharing is a "survival heater." Basically you take a clean quart paint can (get them at Home Depot), stuff it with toilet paper (pull out the cardboard insert and compress it into the can. sometimes you need to remove a layer or two as well.) Then pour in a quart of rubbing alcohol. I use the 90% but you can use 70%. 70% has more water in it, biggest thing is it rusts the can faster. I tend to just check it at the start of each winter when I put the can in the Jeep. The TP acts as a wick that you can set fire to in the can. The alcohol produces very little carbon monoxide. I'd still crack a window if I was using it. If the can tips over, your fuel won't pour out and the fire remains contained. I have one of my fire starters taped to it. In a TJ it fits perfectly between the tub and the roll bar at the back. You have to drop it into the spot, so it doesn't roll around and that spot is pretty much unused anyways.

EDIT: found a video of someone building one of these heaters. I don't agree with putting a bic lighter and can opener on it. I just have some harbor freight fire starter on there that came with a bit of a hacksaw blade. I can use that to open the can and strike a fire. But I also have matches and a bic lighter or two in the jeep. Plus I currently have two cigar lighters in the glove box and I tend to carry a zippo, so I have plenty of ways to start fires.

Btw, does anyone have some kind of power converter?

My sport did not have the plug under the armrest so I d.i.y. a cigarette lighter outlet. It's hot straight to the battery...I always remember to never leave anything plugged in while the car is off.

In any case, I was looking into something like this:

Thoughts? or something better? Thanks in advance.

I have a 150w inverter that I use quite often,
During last storm where we were without power for +2weeks, I was a makeshift charging station, often charging up to 4-5 cell phones at a time.
Mine is hardwired through a 5 switch panel,
Master switch allows me to shut everything off so I don't forget something.
Am now looking to upgrade to a 1000w inverter.
