Hi Folks,
I'm new to the world of Jeeps, I went to look at a 09 Patriot 2.0 CRD Limited 6 spd manual yesterday but I thought I'd check with some experts first so I came here for a look :D
I'm from Scotland, My first love is retro/classic cars of which I have a few but I wanted something practical, sturdy and comfy for the winter. A patriot seems to tick all those boxes.
Unfortunately the one I looked at has a whining noise which the dealer put down to a belt rubbing?? The more I look into it the more serious it could be so I may just walk away from it. I'll have a look around the site here to see if I can find some more info.
Cheers!

Welcome! Not sure on the whining noise but if you are not 100% confident just keep looking, there are plenty of Patriots out there so go for the best you can. For an idea of the prices, our 57reg (08model) 2.0d Sport with 30kmiles was only valued at ÂŁ5k by a Jeep dealer for a p/x.

Thanks for the welcome!
Zooki - They do seem very undervalued, it's actually one of the things that attracted me to it, I'm planning on keeping it for quite a few years if I get a good one.
csowers - It was kind of hard to tell but I think it was more from the engine bay, I'm going back to look at it this afternoon so I'll update the thread with my findings. It is a 6 speed manual transmission not a CVT so it hopefully is a slipping belt or something similar.
I have spoken to the dealer about my concerns, they will be looking at it and fixing the noise before I agree to buy it :)

If the dealer says it's simply a belt wining them he should be able to simply fix it. A squirt of WD 40 in the right place will prove that theory. (Cam or alternator belt). The noise will return, it's just to point you in the right direction. if it' s the turbo then it's more of a concern. Let him fix it or walk.

BTW, welcome from Warwickshire.

You are always going to pay a premium for the 6 speed CRD over a 2.4 5 speed or CVT. Also unless you really need fog lamps & leather heated seats the Sport model is the bargain buy .

Since the Patriot was deleted in UK a couple of yrs ago , dont expect UK dealers to be too enthusiastic about them . They are too busy trying to push that poor sad model known as the 2nd Gen Compass..!!

Hi again folks,
Well, I went back to the dealer today for a second test drive and a closer inspection, the whine was still there and the airbag light came on while i was driving it so i walked away. A mechanic there had a look at it and reckoned it was the turbo so I did the right thing. cheers for your advice everyone :)
The search continues.........

Yep ...Check out ..Carmony.co.uk Piston Heads .com Motors.co.uk & Makeandmodel.co .uk.

There's quite a few out there ,all at various prices .. ( Out of the 4845 sold in the uk , during its short sales life over here )

Well that's it done :D I'm now officially a Patriot owner.
Today I bought a 2010 2.2 crd sport with 20k miles on it, in the best colour (black)
I got a very good test drive and went over it very carefully and I honestly couldn't fault it. Got it for a very decent price too.
Here's a couple pics:

Anyway, this looks like a decent forum with lots of handy information, hopefully I can make a worthwhile contribution too :)

I would love to have the opportunity to purchase a CRD Patriot!

I pulled up to a light beside a diesel GC the other day, smiled over at the other driver. She smiled back and said no when I asked her, "You aren't ever going to sell that are you?"

but i don't think that any common rail engines were ever fitted....but i am regularly quite wrong

my CRD has a pumpe duse engine
Well I think that you are correct Harold. Common rail engines have one pump whereas the VAG TDi PD engines have a seperate pump for each cylinder driven by the camshaft.

Not sure about the later models with the Mercedes 2.2 litre diesel though.

All the info I found while researching the patriot before buying one says the merc 2.2 is common rail direct injection, I assumed that the 2.0 vag would be similar, it's a bit misleading calling it a CRD. (unless it stands for something else entirely)
Both very good engines though as far as I can tell.
