Winter Tire and Rim Set ups - Post Yours

Hi All,

Well with 3 factory rim/tire combos for the Patriot it can be frustrating using all the online "tire finders".

I run the 17" factory rims on my 2007 Patriot 4x4. These have the factory size 215/65 R17 Tires on them.

Winter options for this size are fewer and more expensive. I decided to get 16" tires mounted on a 16" steel rim for my new winter tires. But What size!!!??? I wanted to keep the same ~28" overall diameter. The three Patriot options are all different diameters. Check the forum knowledge base to find yours.

I ended up going with a 16" diameter rim that is 6.5" wide with a 42mm offset (I believe the factory rims are 38mm)

The bolt pattern is 5x114.3 mm.

On the rims are a set of General Altimax Arctic Tires in 225/70 R16. This is just over 28 inches overall diameter. The reason I went to 225 instead of 215 was that the 215s were $25 more a tire for some reason????

Sipe cubed, dude. When the daily high temp drops below 45*F, I will switch out wheel/tire sets.

We just had snow the last two days so it was nice to have them on the rims in the garage instead of joining the mad dash to all the tire shops!

Yep. The tire shops here get crazy around the first winter storm.

I run 216/65-R16 un-studded Firestone Winterforce rubber on stock steelies. I usually have the snows on the Jeep and the CR-V by Halloween, but I've been out-of-town for two weeks, and won't be home for another week.

over here in the uk we are not required to have winter tyres and up until the last few years hardly anyone had them, but recently they have become more widely used/available. i have just got hold of another set of standard 17" alloys (need a refurb so ok for winter) and a set of Nokian WR G2 SUV Tyres in 215 60 17. first set of winter tyres so looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about, im mounting them next week and fitting them as soon as i have done track rod ends and allignment.

I'm putting 225/70/16 MasterCraft Courser AXT tires on my stock 16” steelies! They are some sweet looking tires. Any thoughts or reviews?

I have those tyres on my Patriot. Work well in snow, slush. Good all rounder. Will have the same again when it's time.

dont know where you got yours but openeo.co.uk was great for me, sussed out they are more expensive in the winter hung on till the summer and got them £300 cheaper

Yes, they do the best deals right now. Great price for a quality tire. The Fins must know a thing or two about snow and ice. :smiley_thumbs_up:

Master Craft Courser AXT

Just had a set of these put on today and they are awesome!! Ride smooth and quiet with a great look to them. Got them in 225/70/16 on OE Steelies 16x6.5... Love them plus 75$ rebate from Mastercraft! Pics are in my album.
