Ohotos, your driving conditions (chilly outside, city driving, and only short trips) are made-to-order for getting bad mileage. I also think you may actually be shifting too early--the engines are made to rev to 6,000 and you are not going to be at peak efficiency at such low RPMs.

I know it's hard to adjust to revving a car higher...I remember when cars were meant to be driven below 3,000 but I have not had one like that in a while.
 
Gas milage is bad (just like on other vehicles with a long break in period on the engine) for the first few thousand kilometers and plus do remember to get the car's first service done in time, my milage got a whole lot better after the first oil swap at the dealership. I average now at 4000miles on the odometer around 25-27MPG and it's winter here.
 
I do not have evic in my 07 Trail Rated Patriot, but I have to say that I did just notice a severe hit on my mpg this last week. I live in the desert west part of texas. The temperatures have been dropping slowly and throughout the months of september (which is when I bought the Pat) I was getting between 22 - 23 mpg (by my estimates because like I said I have to evic). But just last week the temperatures dropped down to the 30 F. Well it started snowing and all. I noticed my mpg drop to 19 mgp. (by my estimates). I was like WTF! I guess temperature plays a severe factor in mpolgy for the Pat.
 
This might help: Note that the dash defroster turns on the A/C compressor to remove moisture from the air to keep windows from fogging. The A/C will cut mileage about 20% from my experience with the Patriot. I have to use the A/C almost all the time hear in SanAntonio. This fall I started turning off the A/C as much as I could stand it. Mileage went from ~20mpg to ~25mpg. So, use the floor heater (A/C compressor stays off) and keep the windows clean to fog less. Another thing, updating the computer firmware may help mileage. My Jeep was made in June 07 and this helped mine also. FDI, 4x4, 2.4l, 5spd

Now I am down to 18l/100km - 13mpg!!! Even with all the outside factors, I really don't believe mileage should be this bad. I'll bring it to the dealer and will see what they say.

Hi. I am getting the same thing. I have had a few fill ups where the mileage tends to be within spec, especially in mixed highway/city driving, but it's errratic at best. One fill-up is good mileage the next is poor. I have spoken to the dealer, and they gave me sheet to fill out for the next six fill-ups so that they can assess.
 
You need to build some kind of "grill blocker" out of coraplast board or something. It will help you get to operating temps much quicker and improve your mileage...or get a Grill Blanket from gofia.com. Check your tire pressure also

I park my car in the garage, so it is warm quickly when I take it out. However I will try the engine block heater within the next days.
 
I have the EVIC and it reports an average of 20.7mpg (I'm from Canada but I'm old and mpg is what identify with better than L/100km). The first week (and before I knew how to switch to Imperial) I was driving mostly highway (vacation in summer driving two-lane backtops). I was never much more than 90kmh. The first few tanks were 9L/100kmh. It dropped significantly when back to the city and high speeds of 400 series highways and stop and go Toronto streets.

20.7 is real close to the original sticker values of 21 - 23 mpg for the FDII CVT2L.

Had to fill up again yesterday, put in 42 litres so after driving 259km that comes to over 16l/100km or 14.7mpg. After filling up and resuming driving my EVIC shot up to 25l/100km (9.4mpg!!!). Last night I tried the engine block heater for the first time and on my commute this morning EVIC was showing between 20-22l/100km.
I have driven a new Liberty rental before, in winter as well and I got way better mileage with it, I am extremely disappointed in the fuel economy or rather lack thereof.
Taking the Patriot to the dealer next week to have it checked.

Something is seriously wrong. My Compass doesn't even have 400Km on it yet and I'm getting 12.3 / 100Km right now - and that's All city driving.

The first tank I had some highway driving and I was getting 10.9 / 100Km.

The owners manual says that it takes 500Km to break in the engine.

I don´t have a manual nor a Patriot.
 
I've had my FDII for a month and about 2500 miles now. I have consistently gotten 21.5-23.5 mpg depending on city/highway driving. I don't have the EVIC but use the same gas station and kept a ledger for a bit. The new EPA regs on my sticker listed 20-22 mpg average so I within range. The FDII is going to be lower than the other models but the way I look at it is if it "breaks in" and gets better mpg great, if not I can live with it. SW PA got its first snow (4") and cold 10F and yesterday I had to put air in all my tires (cold). I'm not sure the degree that air pressure has on mpg but I'm sure it makes a difference
