We now have a few new options in the 17" OE tire sizes! I look around every few months on all of the tire mfg sites just to keep up with new tires and such. I always look and see if there are any new offerings in the Patriot OE sizes because we all know there haven't been any true light truck/suv class tires out there other than the OE 215/65R17 Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires which are kind of crappy. Pretty much you have had to settle for passenger car class tires if you want to stay with OE sizes or use the SR-A's. To get a real tire we have needed to jump up to at least a 225's series.

Well, not anymore. There are some new tires out as well as new sizes offered in exisiting tire models we can now choose from. Real light truck/suv class tires! One is even a very popular tire model on this site in size 225. I make no claims as to the quality of these tires nor am I recommending any of them. Just pointing out we have some new options to look at now in the OE 17" sizes....

215/60R17:
Yokohama Geolander A/T-S ( All Terrain )
Pirelli Scorpion STR ( All Season )
Pirelli Scorpion Verde ( SUV/CUV All Season )
Nokian HT SUV ( SUV/CUV All Season - Off Road Capable )

215/65R17:
Toyo Versado CUV ( SUV/CUV All Season )

I cover about 20+ tire mfg's when I look so if they are selling it and have the info there I find it.

Thanks for the info. Can anyone vouch to the quality of these listed tires? I have the Goodyear Wrangles AT/S and already thinking about replacing them. I had general Grabber AT on my last ride (Dodge Durango R/T) that were awesome and had 50k miles on them still looking almost new

Thanks

Nokian tires are the bomb.
Running those on our XL7 and they are real good in all aspects.
Highway, rain, dry...I have winter wheels with some Chinese cheepo snow tires made from the squeezing juice from political prisoners so I don't know about snow and ice.

But that HT SUV doesn't look all that, imo.

Last I was in the tire shop I noticed Nokian had an AT tire that was both rated snow and ice with the triangle/mountain/snowflake symbol and year round capable while warrantied to big miles...I forget and can't find it quick. I think 100,000 kms or 60,000 miles.

I'm thinking these are my next tires when the SRA's go away.
(I'm not minding the SRA's at all...they get me up and down my industrial roads, do fine in rain and handled the limited snow/ice we had last winter just fine...not winter rated tho)

Well, found the warranty immediately after posting...its 50,000 miles on the Rotiiva AT...and it is a P metric tires so NHPatriot's point still holds as he is talking light truck tires.

Although I run P metric tires in a world of 8 ply sidewall guys and have (in three years) only had two tires go bad on me. Both torn sidewalls from blast rock jumping into my tire because it wasn't me going too fast on loose rock and sliding over and hitting a pile of sharp, jagged rock. Nope, wasn't me.

Who would drive like that, eh?

You are making a tire description mistake. P-Metric does not mean a tire is a passenger car tire. P and LT are part of the size designation of a tire and are used to designate load carrying ability between 2 tires of the same size. LT tires will also have more bands and carry a letter( called the load range )at the end of the size which indicates their max PSI and also max weight( letters are C, D, and E ).

Example. The following tire size is available in both passenger car tires and light truck/suv class tires. It is also available in both P-Metric and LT versions.

P235/60R17
LT235/60R17E

It is the same tire size that is offered in both P and LT versions. You can get tires in the same size designed to be used on cars( passenger car class tires )and trucks/suv's/cuv's( light truck/suv class tires ). Any tire size that starts with LT however will be a truck tire.

The tires I listed above are designed for use on light trucks, suv's, and cuv's but all are P-Metric tires. The sizes will be P215/60R17 and P215/65R17. I have never seen an LT215/60R17 or LT215/65R17 tire ever.

The OE Firestone Affinity tires are a passenger car class tire. The sizes start with P. The OE Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires are actually a light truck/suv class tire but the size also starts with P.

Hope that explains it to you?

Where did you find 215/65R17 Geolandars? My local tire shop says 225s are all they can get (just 3 days ago.)
As the other member pointed out I didn't say they were available in 215/65R17. I said they are now available in 215/60R17. 225 used to be the smallest option in that line but as said there are some new sizes out now.

You can look here on the mfg's web site...

http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/detail/geolandar_a_t_s

When open scroll down just a little bit until you see where it says

Overview / Sizes & Spec's / Warranty

Click sizes & spec's and then scroll down until you see the 17" sizes. The 215/60R17 is the 2nd size offered in 17.

- OR -

Go to Tirerack.com and either do a search for the tire size or look under tires by brand and go to the specific model and look up the sizes. On TR the 215/60R17 Geolander A/T-s tires are running $150 each.

Never head of Toyo. Anybody have them or know about them?

Know of any OWL tires except the stock Goodyear SRA's in stock size 215/65/17? Thanks!

I had the geo ATS on my ford explorer. I really liked the off-road traction and how quiet they were on the freeway. But I didn't like how bald they were after 20k miles. Seriously wouldn't pass inspection but I did like the other characteristics of the tire.
Thats odd, I have a set of geo's on my cherokee and after around 40k they still have lots of tread...I'll probably run them another 30k and they still won't be bald, just time to get new ones.
