How do you like that particular Hertz set? I didn't want to spend big money on a front stage, but i'm definitely ready to ditch 'em. I thought the infnity's would be alright for my daily driver, but I'm not impressed with them. They're just not 'snappy' or 'bright' enough. I think the position has a lot to do with it being that they're only coaxs so I'm just gonna glass some pods up for the door panels. The wife's type-r comps sound better than mine. :(

The Hertz are good. Mids are very nice but I have had better and I prefer the ESB/zapco speakers I had prior slightly.

There's lots of good sets out there much cheaper than the Hertz. I cant say I would buy them again, I just got a good deal on them and wanted to see if the hype was worth it.

Whats your budget and Ill link you to a nice comp set that fits your needs

Just want to replace the speakers on a base Patriot

Great information. But I am not very technical. Can you tell me the best speaker to replace the existing speakers to get the best sound out of a base stereo in a base Patriot. Want something easy to do that sounds great. Thank You....sorry for my ignorance.

Front and back, drop in no mods.

Or keep the rears stock to help with bass since theyre efficient and just upgrade the fronts. You dont need tweeters in the rear.

Replaced Speakers

Thank you TYRONESHOES. I replaced all 4 door speakers as you suggested using sets of the Pioneers. I needed to cut away some of the plastic behind the speakers and splice in the wire connectors to finish installation. It was fairly simple and the results are great. I didn't realize how bad the stock speakers were until the new ones started cranking out the music. I am very happy with the mod. Thank You.

Glad to help. Cutting a little plastic is no big deal.

Hey Ty, i currently have an Alpine 1000 RMS amp and Type X sub, but its been gettin in the way. I want to sell the sub/amp and minimize the subs footprint but want to save as much boom as i can. I love ur TC sub enclosure, do you think that would be louder than an 8" under each seat up front?

I will speak in my experience, I also have the TC. I love it and it fills the car great. Two eights under the seats would be nice, but it depends on what you buy and how they sound. If you put an 8 under each seat, where will your amp go?

Well i looked at some JL amps todag and also the Alpine PDX amps. They are so small that im sure i could them just about anywhere. I could easily hide kne in the dash or customize my center console inside.

works on 2010

Just installed a pair of the Soundstream sst6.9 in the front doors of my 2010 Patriot Sport. No special tools just a star screwdriver and a pocketknife to remove the plastic baffle behind the factory speaker to allow the deeper speakers. They fit a little tight but they sound much better than the stock speakers.

Next step is another pair for the rear doors, then either a new head unit or an amp. then a sub under the seat(s)

Tyroneshoes tried a sub under the seat, He got told to remove it, because the significant other did not enjoy her seat being shaken perfusily.

Yea i read that. Was hoping the ported box would divert enough vibration to avoid that. Also thought about facing the sub down and putting the box on small stilts.

Which is why I saved it for last. I hope after 4 6x9s and and an amp are in place, I wont need a sub. I had one of these* in another truck and it sounded like crap and popped a fuse damn near everytime the sides touched the seat bracket and I dont want to give up any cargo area so ill probably use something like the JL under the seat he had and then turn it way down if its too much.

well, after thinkin about this most the night at work lol... Ive come to the conclusion that i will attempt the 8 in sub enclosure in the rear panel paired with an Alpine PDX-V9 (100 rms x4 and 500 rms x1) amp. then add beefier 6x9s to supplement. and if thats just not loud enough.....well, i can add more up front :p

Sorry guys I kinda forgot about this post.

I still have the same system but I now run Mb Quart QSD 216s up front. They are the best speakers I have ever heard in 20 years+. Now discontinued but slightly altered as the German Maestro m line. I still have the TC 8" and am very content with it. I threw in a 15" boston sub just to see what some real authoritive bass would be like and it seemed like overkill and just brought out more rattles and my tuck is well deadened

The single tc 8 in the hidden enclosure is enough for anyone except spl guys and produces some of the best sounding bass I have ever heard. I recommend any 8 in the hidden corner design over putting a sub under the seat for numerous reasons.

#1 cabin gain : depending on where the woofer is positioned in the truck, the shape of the interior acts to amplify the sub level. The sub in the rear corner uses the interior to boost bass response. This was not so under the seat. Once I moved the ported jl microsub to the back before the custom box, the output improved significantly by something called corner loading.

#2 its annoying

#3 it doesnt sound as good so dont do it.

Also, try to avoid pdx amps. I and lots of others have had issues with them. Look into the JL hd/xd line and the kenwood exelon small form amps.

If you want a good deal on a tiny 4 channel to power the fronts and a tc sound epic 8" sub, this is currently the best deal

http://www.soundstream.com/html/amps-tarantula-nano.html

Small enough to fit under either of the front seats and really powerful.

This is the same amp as the small Polks, PPI phantom and phoenix gold micro amps. Just cosmetics have changed.

If youre on an extreme budget I just installed this tiny amp in my friends car and was very impressed with it.

Its actually 260x2 bridged and its a typo up there. Got it for $110 on ebay. More than enough for a good efficient 8" like a jbl gto and some front speakers.

sorry all who pm'd me. If you need me Im here now.

Looks good tyrone. I'm still very impressed with my TC. Everyones like where are your subs? Theres nothing in the back! My box blew, mainly due to a first box build attempt, and bad design on my part. I don't have the money to rebuild it right now, but soon it'll be back in!

Have the guy who builds them build it for you with the TC'S cutout and 1" less deep. Perfect.

I don't have the money for someone else to build it! But, I did buy the mdf saturday for it. Should I make it an inch less thick? This will be the project next weekend, so I'm gathering my thoughts. I'm using 3/4 mdf, wood glue (didn't use last time), then screwing it, and then siliconing it.

This may have easily become my favorite thread on the forum. Tyrone your build, knowledge and updated builds are truly inspiring. Sharing what you've learned from placement is great.

I'm planning to reuse my Hybrid Audio Imagine 6x9's, though I have yet to decide if it would be best to break up the tweeters or leave them center mounted in the speaker. In my old GrandCherokee I did this and they sounded fantastic. I found some speaker pods for the Jeep Wrangler that I think I could put them in and have them face me, but your comments about potential accidents is a valid concern. I had been strongly considering buying a dedicated mid driver, but cost is always a concern.

I have a 10" Image Dynamics IDQ10v3.D2 and I'm going to try my best to find a way to reuse it by finding a way to stealthily enclose it and replace the 8". I may then be able to reuse my Zapco amp and bridge it for the speakers and the subwoofer. I plan to sound deaden the front doors and maybe the tailgate door and the wheel well area behind the sub.

Where my approach may become different is to keep the stock touchscreen that's in my Patriot but install the http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_60630_Kicker-Front-Row-ZXDSP1-12ZXDSP1.html Kicker Front Row sound processor. There would be lots of benefits and tweaking possible at a modest price without going too extreme I think.

Tyrone, did you try or learn anything about potentially putting in a 10" subwoofer back there? I think I last read you decided on an 8" -- and I think I saw you had an Image Dynamics sub earlier on. Would it be worth looking into selling mine for that smaller 8"? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!
