I was at the local jeep dealer today just looking around. I noticed all of the patriots have the 4x4 badge on the back, but I was wondering if there was any way to tell just by looking at one if it's a FD2? Do all of the FD2 patriots have the "trail rated" badges? I really just want a base model sport with a/c, power windows, and FD2, but I'm afraid I may have to special order it.

The FD2 will have a fourth position below D, which will be L for the low gear ratio crawl. The FD1 should have the + and - slots to the left and right of D for the Autostick feature.

When you say base model sport, what features of base model do you want?
FdII can be spotted by the tow hooks and trail rated badge,
Only thing you can't get in FDII is manual, it comes with the cvt2 as part of the fdII.

Well from what I understand the "sport" is the base model, or the lower end model, so I'm looking at the sport 4x4. The only options I want are the FD2 pkg (off road goodies, cvt with low gear) and the power value group (a/c, power windows/ mirrors etc.) Seems like this combo isn't very common. All of the patriots at my local dealer are either sports with FD1 or Latitudes with FD1.

broaden your search area significantly. Always seems that odds of anyone finding an FDII at the local dealer are pretty small. Seems to be alot of anecdotes about having to travel a bit to pick one up, even going out of state. Also, that dealers seem to suck at finding them at other dealerships.... and apparently sometimes finding them on their own lot. Mine, I found online at a dealer an hour away and them talked to a salesman who was pretty convinced he didnt have an FDII on his lot... until I showed him. Can't blame him much, cuz the dealership didnt even have it as anything unusual in its own ad--no reference to it being trail rated or FDII... I identified it because its a 'cvt2L' (as in, cvt with low gear) instead of 'cvt2'. So do yer homework.

You could find it yourself, tell yer local dealer where it is, and let the dealers work out an exchange. But ya might just want to buy it wherever ya find it, doesnt matter where you buy it. The only thing you need locally is service.

and, i bet that if ya find a FDII, it will come with power group... although it may be Latitude. Might have to suck it up, or go sport and get aftermarket power windows/doors. Just search for the FDII, it will help to limit yer variables when doing a broad search

search for posts here that discuss searching for an FDII/trail rated, you should be able to find the name of the sites used to search

good luck

I have another question. I've seen on a few dealer websites that the mpg rating of the FD2 patriot is something like 20/23 where as the FD1 is 23/28. Is it really that much of a difference?
yes, but individual results vary depending on how you drive it

Glad it helped! As for my post, I ended up with a 2014 FDII, Sport. It just has the FDII options and A/C, everything is manual. It was hard to find, and I almost ordered a 15.
