i have a stupid question but, does anyone know if the cvt shifter surface is the same size as a trailrated badge? all this talk makes me want to add a little something to mine :)
i think the badge would fit size-wise, BUT the top of the knob is curved a bit... it may not be flat enough for the badge to set on there right..

That would be an awesom idea though... and there are these trail rated vinyl decals , but 4" sounds kinda big...

That decal sure would look nice in in white on my back window though :pepper:

You could make a shift knob out of wood, or maybe a plastic, and do an inlay with a Trail rated badge. Hmmm, those would work for any Jeep too, so someone could make those and sell them too.

You would probably need a lathe to make the knob, but it doesn't sound too tough to do.

JC Whitney has this one that the badge could be inserted into, maybe:

Bringing this back up for clarification...absolutely HATE the factory shift knob on our 5 speed.

1) The stock knob just pulls off, right? (Apparently, some have had difficulty)
2) Does the Compass knob fit the 5 speed?

I drove another Patriot that had something similar to the Compass knob on it and it was vastly superior. I could buy any number of aftermarket knobs, but the Compass knob looks nice and at $13 you can't go wrong. I just want to be sure it fits the manual trans stalk before I purchase one and do whatever is necessary to get my existing one off.

The knob in my 2011 did not just pull off. I tried everything I could to get it off, but I ended up prying off the plastic cap and using a coping saw to split the knob at the top.

To get the shift boot to line up nicely, I got two 3/4" plastic hole plugs, glued them together, drilled a hole through it, re-attached the boot with a zip tie and put a zip tie on the stalk to keep it from sliding up and down.

I also ended up cutting about 1-1/2" off of the stalk to fit a taller knob, but see where your knob sits before you cut, if that's your intention.

shift knob removal

Thanks to all. I could never get a good enough grip so I used of all things a lobster claw cracker. It fit around the shift shaft and I was able to get a good grip and off it came. Thanks to all of you.

Yes. I have a 2011 and it came right off with a little effort. Pry the lower cone down, and then pull the knob straight off. I did it today.

Compass Knob on!

Just replaced mine with an 07 Compass knob with the Jeep logo in grey background and fake "screws" around the edges. Same indented grip on the front as ours and yup -pulls right off and slips back on! Was about $16-18 from an online Mopar site and matched the same part numbers given in previous posts. Well worth it for a cheap mod.

I changed the shift knob out today( for CVT )on my 2011 Patriot using the 2007 Compass knob that says "Jeep". I have had it now for like 6 months but just decided to do it today. Not sure why I waited so long?

As others have said to remove the old one you just give a tug up and it comes off( no need to slide the lower plastic trim off as some have said ). It does take a pretty good tug and as said when it does come loose it really comes off fast so keep your face clear!

Just set the new one in place and press down and it pops on. Very easy.

I paid $18 for the knob + shipping for a total of $26. Price has gone up since many folks posted their price earlier in this thread( $13-$15 for the knob ). A cheap, quick, and easy mod that looks great.

that's the one I have! it looks better than the stock and it still says JEEP :)

there is a lot of knob talk in this thread haha

That will be cool. please post pictures of that
Using an (inert) grenade for a shift knob is a terrible idea, I think.
I can just see some passersby seeing it, and calling 911. Now, you've got cops waiting for you when you come out of the store.
Plus, it advertises that you may have firearms stored in the vehicle. Thieves welcome advertisements like this. I don't put pro-gun stickers on my vehicles, or leave gun magazines on the seats.
Even if the thieves take nothing, you still have damage to repair.
I own nearly 50 firearms, and reload for about 25 different rifle and pistol calibers, but you'd never know it to look at my vehicles. I don't even wear pro-gun shirts or hats.
Do what you wish, but I think an inert grenade for a shifter is a bad idea.

As someone who just did a swap for the "Jeep" shifter, let me share a horrible secret with you. A secret so horrible, you'll need therapy. A secret that is so secret, not even the wisest know it.

Are you ready?

Brace yourselves......

Winter is already here, so we're not talking about that.......

You can just pop the top off the knob and swap it with one from the shifter you have installed. A lot safer for you and it's easy-peasy. I bought a used and somewhat dirty-looking Compass shift knob - which uses exact the same base as the Patriot, duh - and simply worked the top off and swapped it with the chromed top from the stock shifter.
