Navigation died, 2011 head unit replaced under warranty

So the dealer fixed my center console that was creaking and replaced my flimsy multifunction lights stalk, and when I picked it up the GPS was no longer working, unable to acquire a lock on any satellite. I took it back and they seem baffled because they didn't go anywhere near the radio. They checked the connections on the radio and everything was good, so they disconnected the battery to reset everything, but the GPS is still not working. They ordered a new radio and will call me next week to swap it out.

I know the GPS was working before because I use it to check my miles driven per fill up, and I even used it to get to the dealer for service. I have a hard time believing the GPS side of the radio just died while it was in getting springs and a console replaced. If any one has any diagrams of where the antenna for the GPS runs, I would greatly appreciate it. I just want to see if it comes close to any of the items they touched, but the parts catalog doesn't show the install location, just what it looks like

That stinks. I think I may just live with the "bubble" in the driver's door padding and intermittent inability to enable the cruise control, for fear of the repairs causing additional issues.

It does stink, and definitely doesn't do much to boost my confidence in the dealer. Even with the new problem, I'm so incredibly glad they replaced the turn signal stalk. I thought I had gotten used to it, but then I drove a Chrysler 200 last week for a rental and found out what the turn signal switch was supposed to feel like. Between that and the new springs (and the repaired center console), it is starting to feel like a truly solid vehicle. Oh yeah, on a side note, you know the gear selector lock that only let's you shift from park with the foot on the brake? Well it's making a pretty loud clicking noise when I press on the brake while in Park now, only started after they fixed the center console

I believe in the '08, the GPS/Nav antenna lives under the center panel over the radio just aft of the windshield--so if they were working in that area, it could have been disturbed. As we used to say in the service industry, "take a call, make a call"

If you are in the Nav menu and click map does it show the surrounding area and the vehicle icon?

It shows my vehicle at the location of the dealership with a question mark flashing over the vehicle, and the signal shows no bars. A message just above the map says "Acquiring Satellites" ... something like that. To me it seems like the antenna cord got disconnected or cut

It's real easy to remove the front radio panel, there are no screws you just pull forward. Then remove the 4 screws that hold the radio in place and the radio pops right out. The wire in question is the blue fakra connector which is connected to the back of the radio. Some radios have the antenna mounted directly to the top of the unit, so it should be an easy fix to find.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the info, I'll let you know how it goes for me in a couple days. Unfortunately I am going on a trip today and will be pressed for time, so I probably won't be able to check it before, and on a road trip is where I could really use it

You can also try to reset your calibration for your radio. With your car on, simply press the seek up and down buttons simultaneously with the menu button. It will bring you to a set of menus, scroll down till you see the Nav debug, click on the Nav debug then scroll up three times (it's hidden so even though the screen is blank scroll up 3 times) and click on reset calibration. A word of warning, there are many menus available in this section, some of the files can actually ruin your radio if deleted or changed so just be aware not to wonder too much. Hope this helps, the madd cracker

Always disconnect the battery prior to doing anything electrical on your vehicle.

Isn't that the Law?

You don't have to disconnect the battery. Your only doing a visual to see if the GPS antenna came lose or is severed. Your not going to disconnect any wires.

Well I checked the GPS antenna, and everything looks good and everything was plugged in the way its supposed to be. The replacement RHB 430N radio came in and the dealer replaced it, fixing the problem. I hate radio swaps under warranty because that usually means a refurb unit. To my amazement, I believe my replacement is brand new. Either that or they did a heck of a job refurbishing it. It has the updated theme that came on the 2012's, updated maps, and a new Sirius XM subscription. Hopefully that lasts a year, but I have a feeling it is just a temporary subscription to make sure all the features are working. The new radio does have TravelLink, which I had to install on my last radio, but still no weather maps.

Either way, I'm happy to have satellite radio and navigation again

Hmm, I have both of those issues. I have had the rubber padding on the passenger's door replaced due to the bubbling, and the driver's side door is next. I thought maybe it was operator error in regards to the cruise control, but maybe not. Sometimes I just can't turn on cruise control.

I'm glad you got it resolved. I have wanted to get a touchscreen GPS radio, but I am always afraid that it's going to go bad and I'll have to throw the entire unit out and have it replaced, along with a costly bill.

Thanks, me too! I was concerned about that as well, but I decided to get the lifetime max care warranty for peace of mind with everything... and once I decided to do that I wasn't worried about the radio dying anymore. That being said... I am still well within the 3/36 bumper to bumper anyways
