Hello Everyone,

First post here. I currently have a Jeep Liberty that I've owned for the last 4 years but with the price of gas these days I've seriously been considering making a switch over to the MK platform and picking up a Limited Patriot. My sister recently bought a 4x2 Caliber Sport and I must admit, I really like it! The back seat is a bit small - but I don't think I'll be riding in the back ever so :p

Anyway, My local dealer just called and I've scheduled a test drive tomorrow after work, but I thought I would stop in here and get any comments from people that might, possibly?, own one already...

~Thanks!

I'm finally seeing and test driving one on Saturday. It's nearly identical to the one that, if I'm pleased with the test drive, I'm going to buy. The only things its missing are the sunroof and the 9 speaker package. I wouldn't mind testing out the Navigation system, but this doesn't have one either, so I don't know what I'll do about that.

I'll try, but my apt. is at 5:00 so it might be a little dark out ya know... But if I pick one up from the lot I can take a whole bunches of pictures!

OK I just got back a little bit ago from the dealer:

My first impression is one of great satisfaction. Overall the Patriot sits at or near the ride height of my current KJ. I like the looks on the exterior and the square shoulders. The height of the MK is shorter obviously but I didn't hit the roof with my head (I'm 5foot 11inches) when I climbed inside the cabin

Inside feels about the same, cross car, as the KJ but there is much more insturment panel for sure. This gave me the feeling that I was actually sitting in something a little bit biger. The centerstack and guages all seemed like they were in the right spot and I love all the cubby bins! The model I examined didn't have a sunroof so I can't comment on the difference that would be noticed.

I also think it's easier to climb in and out of the back of the Patriot than the back seat of the Compass and I like the reclining rear seats.

On road it was very smooth and a lot less truckish than my KJ - another plus. The model I test drove was a FD1 with the CVT.

Now the dealer only has this ONE Patriot on their lot so I didn't buy it on the spot. He said there are a few more coming in a week or two so I'll keep checking back until they get one in dark Blue or I'll just order one in and wait a few extra weeks. Oh man am I excited!

It was the inferno red (I think they call it inferno) on the exterior with the OWL tires

Interior was the kahki color. The two tone seats are very nice looking

Thank you for the great report. Sounds like my next car - only trouble is down in Australia the Patriot is not due until at least September (will probably be later - sure it has something to with putting the steering wheel on the wrong side :) ) so all I can do is read these comments from afar and be very patient !

No pictures here either, but I test drove a 4x4 Limited CVT today. There are at least 4 Patriots in the area right now, and this is the nicest one. Didn't have many of the extra options, like sunroof, blue tooth, boston sound system, nav system, though. Green ext, gray int colors.

I had a really negative experience with the dealership. The salesperson who helped me knew absolutely nothing about the vehicle, didn't have a card, didn't offer any advice on where I should take it on the test drive, etc. The last thing really affected my test drive, because the dealership is on a very busy strip of gridlocked highway, and I didn't really get to test out the actual driving of it all that much. What I did feel was very good, though, especially for an SUV. It's no Beamer, obviously, but it felt a million times better than my 94 Grand Cherokee. I liked the CVT a lot.

The interior wasn't really what I was expecting. To be honest, it felt cheap. I'm really going to have to go again for a second look, but basically I'm just not so sure anymore that this is going to be my next vehicle. The leather was very nice, and the heated seats worked great. I didn't make much notice of the instrument panel or the console, so they must have been more or less what I expected from pictures. There were just a couple of things that deflated my enthusiasm. From inside, the back window and back corners are very weird. The window is tiny and hard to see out of, in my opinion, compared to my Grand Cherokee. Luckily the side mirrors are great and looking out the back to change lanes was more trouble than it was worth in the end.

Another thing was the part of the center console that flips out to hold an iPod. The actual slot the iPod goes into is lined with rubber, so that it can hold it in place, instead of having the iPod go flying off into the windshield. That's all good and well, but my iPod barely fit, and it's one of the older ones, that are fatter and less wide than the new ones, which are flat and farther across in comparison. I just don't think that some iPods would fit in the space. It's not a huge deal, since there are a lot of other little slots and cubbies to let an MP3 player sit in while driving. Anyway, the point was that the rubber that lines the slot was separating from the plastic, and I had to move it back into place. It just struck me as very weird. The third thing that kind of put me off was the mirror under the driver's side visor (and I assume the passenger side). You may be wondering what could possibly be wrong with a mirror, and the answer is nothing. But it was just a piece of glass, whereas even my 13 year old Grand Cherokee had a dimming/brightening slide light, and felt much sturdier.

Now, I'm not trying to be a downer. I realize that the things I pointed out are VERY small, but when it comes to buying a new ($25,000) car, you have to be completely satisfied. These are just things that stood out to me, and I know that maybe when I go back and get in a second time, take it to a road where I can actually drive, and inspect it a little bit more closely, I'll come away a lot more enthusiastic about it than I am now. I was just expecting caviar on a tuna fish budget, and now that I've gathered my thoughts like this, I'm already feeling better about the Patriot than after I drove it this morning.

Honest is the best policy.. :)

The biggest thing that bothered me about the Patriot was the height of the door trim plastic in relation to my shoulder. It felt a little bit intrusive as I sat with the door closed, but maybe that was just my brain adjusting to the change in interior height between a Liberty and Patriot

mabye the seat hight adjuster would help with that. I thought it had pretty good range. It got me high enough to touch my head to the roof.

12ist, how did it feel to open the doors and close them. Did it feel strong or flimsy? Did the plastic feel cheap or of good quality?
I had mixed feeling about the inside of the Caliber, but the Compass seemed a little nicer inside, but see far less of those on the road compared to the Caliber, so I hope the Patriot is much better.

My other consideration is to see
the Nissan Roque, Honda CRV and Toyota Blade(Matrix) or even Honda CrossRoads if it makes it to the States, but I know the Jeep has better off road ability.

I just came back from Huntington Jeep on Long Island, New York. They seemed to have been the only dealer with a Patriot in stock. It was in white and with an interior of grey covered in cloth.
To be honest, I didn't even notice it among the other Jeeps in the lot since it seemed kind of small as far as its height. It seemed as heigh as a Scion XB at first inspection, but yet again there was no Scions to compare it to and just Liberites, Wranglers and Commanders; the Compass, it's sister
model, to provide any true comparisons was on the other side of the lot.
Inside felt very much like a Caliber and Compass as far as seating and dash layout. I was not crazy about the rear view mirror's visibility perspective
from seeing out of the rear mirror. I think a wider mirror might be of better use since the rear seat headrests block some of the view from behind you. The interior also seemed a little spartan, but not the worse but below what is seen in a Hyundai Tuscon. Dials, vents and other knobs serves their functions well, but touch and feel needs more improvement.
Otherwise, it felt nice and height and shoulder room were acceptable.
I am not sure coming from a German car if the shoulder belts on Jeep/Chrysler models are suppose to go before the seat. On other makes I thought it was suppose to be behind or near the headrest.
I would recommend not to even look at the standard steel rims, they make the car look very cheap and maybe a color other then white might make it
look more sportier.
The model came with CVT 2, A/C, YES fabric and electric windows and locks and dark windows. It must have been the sport model and not the limited and also not the Trail rated version... for about $ 20. 000. For this to look and handle a lot better the cost will be above $ 21K.
I will take a look at this model once again when more colors are available
and with different equipment packages, and come back with maybe a better
rating. Sorry for not giving the Patriot the best review.....

I didn't even play around with the height adjuster too much... Mabybe that was my problem (sitting too low in the vehicle) Ah well, A couple more days and the next shipment of Patriots comes in at the Dealership. When it's time, I'll head back and do a lot more looking.

My salesman said they wouldn't get any brochures in for at least 6 months. Intead they gave me a tiny little flyer that compares it to all of the other cars on the street like CR-V, Highlander, Escape - it's a dealer item so I don't really think I was supposed to get it. :D

I'm pretty confused about that too. I was told that they (the dealership) had just gotten the information on the 2007 Sebring and that car was launched back in August!

I'm pretty up to speed on the features of the Patriot, but it sure would be nice to read some stuff and maybe see an accessory borchure too.
