Simple question. When is the appropriate times to drive with it on, and when is it good to have it off? Should it remain on during normal driving conditions?

You turn it off when you are in conditions like sand. My wife tried driving in sand with ESP on and we couldn't do it. Basically, any time you are in conditions where individual wheels are seeing different conditions, you want it off. The ESP is designed to correct for those differences, which you want to happen on a highway, but not in sand.

IMPORTANT
keep in mind that that if you simply push the esp button in and see a picture of a swerving car on the dash it is only partially off. To turn esp all the way off you have to hold the button in for 5+ seconds. Then it will say "esp off" on the dash. It turns itself back on when your speed goes up to 30mph. I have only had to do this once on a steep mountain road when my car would not go up the hill.

Another simple question. My wife emailed me and asked me about the ESP.I am thousands of miles away and dont have a clue. When you start the Patriot the ESP is on automatically?I told her to read the manual but she said its confusing.Sorry if I am beating this to death.

Yes, it is. Everytime you start the vehicle the ESP will be on (no light in dash)
And yes, manual is very confusing (in English as well as in Spanish).
