I have a brand new Jeep Patriot Latitude 4x4 2.4 liter 5 speed. There is less than 4,000 miles on this ride and I am having a few issues with it. Mainly the transmission does not go into reverse well. It makes a clunk into reverse gear and looks like the stick is in reverse and then I let off the clutch and there is a low grinding noise and it pops out of gear. Its an intermittent problem so the dealer tech's could not replicate it right away. I was lucky and had it happen when I was at the dealer for ordering an accessory a few days later. Now it happens every day when I have to attempt to get it into gear two or three times when I need to reverse. The stick has also had clunky problems with first gear to second gear with clunky operation from fourth to fifth. I actually had it shift on the freeway from fourth to fifth and it had felt like a gate that allowed it to go into third gear instead of fifth and jumped the RPM's and I quickly put in the clutch to prevent the red line pinning. This happened three times so far. I have a Chrysler case going and I plan to take it in again for the tech's to fix the problem. I am so glad I got them to experience the reverse problem. This is really disappointing that this brand new Jeep has major issues and I feel that it needs a new transmission with the clunky transmission operation and grinding happening. The first two hundred miles I was breaking it in so gently it was working fine until the reverse issue started.
