If you really think insurance company's actually pays you 100% for your total loss your a bigger dreamer than I thought. They pay you a fraction of what it is actually worth. By the way the Jeep Patriot has a low enough profile that you can drive right smack into the tornado. Good Luck

that must depend on the company... last year a tornado destroyed my garage, insurance company paid to replace the building plus paid replacement value for the things inside it plus the new bass boat that had a tree fall on it. only had to pay a $500.00 deductable which i am suing the neighbor for since it was their tree. total claim with the garage, garage contense boat and tree removal was $65,000.

a troll is attempting to hijack the thread! Quick back on subject!!! Way to stand your ground. I think they low-balled you. Then coming back with "maybe another 1k?" Yeah a-holes...

I am probably going to look at a Wrangler tomorrow. I am expecting the dealer to low ball me. But I have already spoken via email. I explained I used autotrader's trade in value estimator-which is how they got a sales lead on me-and I explained I was not happy with the offer.

The sales person explained they did not make the offer, but would honor the offer. :/

I then was very blunt in saying I had a number in mind that I would accept for the patriot and a price I would pay for the Wrangler. So I am going to take it in see what they offer and most likely leave without a new wrangler....

Up here in Jersey after the last major flooding the insurance company sent agents or assessors. This is what he told me, replace water heater 350.00 replace boiler 1800.00 they will pay for sheetrock but not the spackling or the painting. They don't cover the washer or dryer or any appliances and these people had flood insurance. The water heater cost me 550.00 plus you have to add the labor and the boiler installed was 5,500. Then when you finally settle on a number and your check arrives it's 4,000 short because of depreciation. Part of the problem is these assessors come from Alabama or the deep south and bring there Alabama pricing with them which is totally off scale with the North East.

A little off topic here, but I would like to add my insurance company offered replacement cost coverage, and opted for that over depreciated value coverage

the other issue with fuel effecient vehicles is that they emit less pollution, which in turn means less revenue for me.... the more pollution namely hydrocarbons in the atmosphere helps to cause more violent weather and longer lasting tornadoes. I chase tornadoes video tape them and sell the dvds. the more violent and destructive the tornado is the more money the video is. I am not involved with search and rescue after the storms just video them in progress from a very close distance usually less than about 500 feet. hoping for another 2011 tornado season or a much worse season this year in the midwest/plains areas. bring on more grreensburg kansas or joplin mo. type tornadoes....
As a former news photographer who has worked in numerous disaster zones, these remarks are completely ignorant and you're one of the people that give the real professionals a bad name. Please stay out of my state because we don't need selfish adrenaline junkies like you acting like this. Thanks.

It really depends on what your coverages are. We regularly pay out claims where the house is a total loss but we paid full replacement cost (RCV) to rebuild because that's the coverage they purchased. It's a higher premium, but homeowner's policies are just about worthless if you don't have replacement cost coverage, especially in cases of theft. If your policy allows only for actual cash value (ACV) then we'll pay the cost to replace it, minus depreciation.

After waiting around for the numbers they came back with an offer. Their "offer" was 11k for my Patriot! I told them that was absolutely ridiculous and there was no way for it to be worth that little.
They were waaay out of line. I traded my 2011 Lat X FDII even up for a brand new Wrangler. If they want to make the sale, they will.

Kid, I live in the tornado belt. Joplin is a 2 hr ride down US-71. I can assure you, with the utmost certainty, that if I see a Patriot with Illinois plates filming weather in this area, filming violence will have a whole new meaning for you.

i will be in that area this week... may be in a rental or a chevrolet suburban... not a good idea on your part since i am a former LEO.

also people that know me also know i would get rid of the house in a second if i needed that money to buy my suv. I would rather have the nicest vehicle than a residence.... houses are a waste of time and money. one of the reasons i bought the Patriot is there is enough room for an air matteress and a sleeping bag if i decide to go that route. when im chasing i never stay in a motel, ill sleep in the vehicle. a brick and mortar residence is useless

anyway, back to the stealership....

I was in for oil change Friday, saw a Liberty with sky slider open and carbon fiber interior blah, blah blah etc....and was totally smitten. I love the sky slider. Long story short, I like my riot alot and if u do a little digging u will find that the 2013/14 Liberty will be better and better on gas.

So I will wait and see. I may also like a new alfa (if chrysler will bring them here).

Smart choice is to stay the course in the 'Riot.

Keep it rollin'

Thanks,

The dealer did tell me about the Jeep Wagoneer coming back. After looking at it online it looks almost exactly like the Grand Cherokee but with an extended rear.

I was shocked at the deal they presented me at the dealership. I have a good bit of equity in my Patriot so I was looking for a good deal. The sales rep said that the Liberty had been on the lot for over a month and they were looking to make a deal. The Liberty did have a lot more miles on it than my current Patriot. So I was expecting to stay around the same for a car payment.

Overall it was a good learning experience and I'm glad I didn't take the bate. Of course they were trying everything to get me to take the deal. I can't wait to see how many times they call to make another offer.

I just got a letter in the mail stating that my dealership wants to buy my Patriot back because their "used" inventory is low. They were willing to give me 2k more than KBB value if I bought a new Jeep.

Totally not worth it. I just find this crazy because I was literally just sitting down at one of their desks looking into a trade in value. They totally low balled me and now they send me this letter. Well I don't care how much they want to give me for my Patriot I'm not planning on trading it in anytime soon.
