Yesterday I went to go have my Patriot's oil changed at the dealership where I bought my Patriot. I've always had good things to say about that place. They always took care of my Patriot and gave me a great deal on it when I bought it. There was a long line of cars waiting to get their oil changed so I went and browsed the vehicles for sale. I've been looking at a Liberty just to see if it'd be something I'd be interested in. I found a used one for a pretty good price same color as my Patriot. I spoke with a sales rep and found out it had one owner in the area and was very well taken care of. It had little to no wear or tear for being a used vehicle. I took it out for a test ride and actually liked it. The ride is more like a truck than the Patriot. It drove and handled like I hoped it would. When we got back to the dealership. I had them run me some numbers to see what my trade in value would be for my Patriot against the Liberty. After waiting around for the numbers they came back with an offer. Their "offer" was 11k for my Patriot! I told them that was absolutely ridiculous and there was no way for it to be worth that little. My Patriot is a 2010 Latitude with most of the bells and whistles that came on the Patriot at that time. They went back and looked at the numbers and said they could possibly come around 12k but they weren't sure. They asked for me to take the Liberty home and let them make some calls about my Patriot. I decided against that and left with my Patriot. Later on that day the sales rep calls me and said since the Liberty had been sitting for over 30 days they would be aggressive for me to buy it. I told him they should've made the best offer when I was there and not wait around for me to leave.

Well I really don't want to sell my Patriot especially with gas going up as it is. I just figured since i'm young and I don't have any major bills I could afford to pay for the extra gas. Well I know im ranting but I have to vent haha..

One of the very best decisions you will ever make.

Chrysler has this whole spin and win promo going on and it all involves trading your older Jeep in and buying a new one and a chance to win some money.

But the thing is it is simply churning...there is a continent wide shortage of good used vehicles because of the scrap programs and the blow up of leasing in 2008 so they will have no problem selling your trade somewhere and any money you bring, borrow or lease is new money so they all get a piece of that.

sell a new vehicle, sell a good used vehicle, new commissions from all the above plus the kick back from whoever finances you and who ends up paying?

You do.

Congrats on walking away.

if you like it... buy it. that is one of the few things i really don't like about the patriot is the gas mileage, I never cared about fuel economy in the least and it drives me nuts not to have to put $60-70.00 in it every 150-200 miles. also wish it had a V6. not a big fan of 4 cylinders. actually looking at a chevrolet suburban for a second vehicle and it has a 7.4 454 V8.

You think that the bad fuel economy will not bother you, think again. That happy marriage between you and that Liberty would of ended in a biter divorce. I have the Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi 5.7, and if I really baby it I get around 17 to 18 mpg but if I drive it regular I get around 12 to 13. I fill up twice a week, my first fill was 103.00 my second fill was 109.00 and I was going to fill her up a third time but refused and ended up taking the Patriot to work. In the beginning it will not bother you but shortly there after it starts to get annoying, especially when you start to think of all that extra money going to gas. I know the Liberty is not the gas guzzler the ram is but, the way gas is going up coupled with the problems in the Middle East you will be paying what I am paying to fill your Liberty. If I am not mistaken the Liberty get's 16 city and 20 highway. You made the right decision, trust me.

You don't like the Patriot's gas mileage because you are used to spending more?? Am I reading this right? I've never heard of someone being frustrated because they wanted to spend more money. Maybe every time you fill up you can take the extra $40 you would have spent on gas and put it in a jar... then buy decent tires and a lift and a hail guard on the roof. Or if you would rather throw it away, I'll set up a PayPal account you can just send it to :D I'll gladly take it off your hands

Good decision. I think if you just stay away from the floor room and/or the sales department, you'll be that much safer in keeping your Patriot. Think about why you bought your Pat in the first place. I know I try to stay away from the floor room whenever I visit the dealer for a service because I know I'll be tempted to buy that new Wrangler :D but in the end I enjoy my Patriot every time I drive it.

Yeah i am happy I didn't do it. I am actually really happy with my Patriot and it would be a waste of money to get a Liberty.. I am going to just save what I would've spent and put it on my Patriot. In the hopes that I can get it to look half as good as The_Jeep_now's haha.

Just installed the k&n. filter and that was a pain! Ive never had that much trouble installing it in my previous vehicles. Next up ill get some roof rails.

I like my patriot too... only not real thrilled about its recall it is in for now. plus kinda upsetting to not be buying as much fuel like i used too... not supporting arab nations as much which kinda sucks
I think the Russians must have tried there zombie ray gun on a few forum members. I must say this week must be talk out of your ass week. Sell your Patriot and get a Hummer, you'll spend tons of money on gas, that way you'll be happy.

And you would have had to change your name to LibertyMB....

the other issue with fuel effecient vehicles is that they emit less pollution, which in turn means less revenue for me.... the more pollution namely hydrocarbons in the atmosphere helps to cause more violent weather and longer lasting tornadoes. I chase tornadoes video tape them and sell the dvds. the more violent and destructive the tornado is the more money the video is. I am not involved with search and rescue after the storms just video them in progress from a very close distance usually less than about 500 feet. hoping for another 2011 tornado season or a much worse season this year in the midwest/plains areas. bring on more grreensburg kansas or joplin mo. type tornadoes....

thats what insurance is for... we are out in the field providing real time info on the storms to the weather service and tv media for free so we are entitled to make as much as we can on video sales... its a known fact the more violent or the more damage that is captured on video the better it sells.
