While side-curtain air bags are standard on the Patriot, seat-mounted side airbags are optional (CJ1 code) and won't be available for ordering until Mar. 19/07....

Definitions:

* Supplemental Seat-mounted Side Air Bags (optional):

Housed in the outboard side of each front seat, offer enhanced protection of the driver and front outboard passenger in certain impacts. Each side air bag has its own impact sensor that autonomously triggers the air bag on the side where
the side impact occurs (late availability)

* Supplemental Side-curtain Air Bags (standard):

Extend protection to all outboard front- and rear-seat passengers. Each side air bag has its own impact sensor that autonomously triggers the air bag where the side impact occurs

When???

It is refreshing to see an availability date given for something. Lately it seems like so many things which are supposedly available as options and proudly ballyhooed as features, such as the off-road package, really are not, and no date is given for ...when???

It raises the question as when something should be advertised if they don't have it...And can't give you some idea of how long it will take. And is it really available if it isn't available?

Update:

Seat-mounted side airbags have been moved forward and will now be available after Mar. 12/07....they provide extra protection for lower body area in a collision....vs the standard side-mounted air bags which are installed near the head area....

Yeah, I'm going to wait until these become available to order before getting mine. Any Airbag is going to provide the best protection in a accident so the more bags, the safer i'll feel.
