Well last night I was coming home from the movies late and it was about 11:30 and it was a school night so I turned out thinking I was taking a short cut and then I realized it wasn't so I turned around, there was no cars around and started "crusing" Well I got to enjoy it for about 60 seconds when I went over the overpass on the parkway there was a cop sitting at the bottom waiting on me :( I was doing 83 in a 50 zone so yeah, my insurance is going to love this when they find out and also I haven't even called to find out how much this ticket is going to cost me, kinda scared. I'm getting a radar detector soon :) And if it matters doing 83 in my 2.4L automatic was only doing about 32xx rpm.

I'd say you found your top speed. Pay your ticket quickly. Maybe the file will go away. They sometimes do if you pay soon enough in local/county areas. Maybe not, though, for the state or province. Good luck. Be humble. Pray...

It will get up a good head of steam, and I was surprised when on the interstate it would cruise at 75-80mph without too much difficulty (I don't generally drive that fast, but if you're passing a bunch of folks it comes in handy).

I gotta tell ya , I think we are on to something, My 5 speed Pat LOVES to be at 75-80 MPH , its like i have no control over it what so ever ...this never happened with my Dakota ...very strange...maybe its like a tuning fork ...the engine just hums at the pitch of the rest of creation at that speed. :notworthy:

I usually set my cruise somewhere around 73-74. It allows to me slow down for cops and slow-mo's easier, as we have a lot of both here in Ohio!
Jeepmuck,

Guess with this question I'll reveal just how sheltered a life I've been leading, but what is SLOW-MO in this context? I don't have a clue, so I'm perplexed, wondering & sleepless.

I made a run of 1.5 hours on the Long Island Expressway the other day. We rarely need to use it as we live beyond where it ends, but we had to go "Up Island". The traffic cruises at 70 mph, rarely drops to 65 and sometimes there are scoots to 80 mph. The Patriot CVT cruised at 2,200 rpm's at 70 mph. It had no trouble with accelerating onto the expressway traffic. It does have more road noise then our 2003 Camry, which I think is due to the aggressive tread pattern of the 17" wheels, but I like hearing the engine's exhaust.

I don't go less than 80 on the highway and have only received two speeding tickets in the ten years I've been driving... luck, good looks, or a combination of the two? HA!

Here's my favorite "getting pulled over" story...

I was about 19 years old, minding my own business, driving the speed limit, and heading home. All of a sudden, I see the lights, groan, and pull over. The cop saunters over to my car and asks for ID. He calls in for backup and soon a second officer arrives. They both start laughing their a$$es off because the first cop pulled me over cuz he thought... drumroll...

I was a child who had taken her parents' car out for a joy ride since he couldn't see the top of my head over the driver's seat!

I snatched my license back, asked in my best snarky tone if I could go, and drove off. Cops... gotta love em.

Did the cop give you the full fine, or reduce it to something like 10 over? I would go to court and hope the cop doesn't show. Then you can get the case dismissed.

Reading your post makes me feel old. *sigh* Guess I"m not as thrilled about higher speeds than I used to be. I'd rather save money on gas and not get tickets. LOL

I've actually become quite obsessed over my gas mileage so I almost always do the speed limit. On the highway I generally do 75, and feel like I'm standing still with everyone flying by me. Guess that is why there is almost always a rollover accident on the highway... and usually a SUV.

As I've mentioned in other threads, I save my jackrabbit starts and slightly higher speeds for my Mustang. ;)

Quite Simply, those who drive too slow!

People who are always doing 5-10 UNDER the limit and many times in the left lane! And many of these people will still slow down in front of cops!

People who are too scared to merge onto an expressway at any speed above 45.

Those who make easy turns at nothing faster than a dead crawl.

People who pull out in front of you, forcing you to slam on your brakes and than doing nothing more than 35 for the next 10 miles.

People who have a long line of vehicles, full of frustrated drivers trailing behind like a funeral procession and are clueless or indifferent to that fact....

All these people and more are slow-mo's. Also known as slow-asses or just a$$holes!

I'm on of the those "10 over" drivers. About the only place I do the precise limit is in school zones. My CVT2L Pat enjoys 75mph on highway. I really am just statying up with traffic at 75mph. I get my best mileage on two-lane blacktops where speeds are 50 - 60 mph. The Pat likes any speed it seems.

OK,OK I've got one "adventure" story. I'm an old duck so this story goes back to the 50's. I had a 56' Chevy Bel Air 2 door hardtop, red&white with the powerpack V8, 205HP, stick shift and dual glasspack exhaust system. The car was F-A-S-T. There was this hamburger joint where we'd all hang out and the road was a four lane with a grass strip separating the opposite lanes. We would drag up the hill and that night a guy in a Ford wanted to see what the Chevy could do. So we lined up and then blasted up the hill. I beat the Ford up the hill, but a police car came flying down the hill as we went up. I knew I was dead as I watched the cop slam on his brakes and try to turn around to come back up, so I just pulled over and waited for him just over the ridge. The Ford hightailed it. The cop came blasting up the hill and flew by me in hot pursuit of the Ford, then saw me sitting there. He slammed on his brakes and yelled out "What the hell are you doing?" I said "waiting for you." This is the truth...He just shook his head and said "Go home." then he took off after the Ford. I'm a lot smarter these days!

I definately thought I was going to get pulled over. Cop was at a stop sign on the highway, I was doing 71-72 in a 55. I slowed down to 55, watched him whip out there. He got over and passed me while I was doing 60. Heck I was even preparing my story in my mind as to why I was speeding. I had been up since 4:00 am, I worked 8 hard hours at the hospital, got off work at 2:00, was tired cause I only slept 4 hours. Once again I guess I was lucky. I've been pulled over twice for speeding, no ticket. Had my car three weeks, pulled over. Had the pickup 4 weeks pulled over for speeding. I've had the Patriot 3 months nothing yet, fingers crossed.

I'm between 70 & 85 for 90% of my driving, the other 10 is streets - haven't taken it past 90 yet - need to go a long drive to determine the road trip cruising speed. My evic is now comfortably stuck between 23.8 and 24.1 mpg :) --I just hit 1100 mi. I have noticed that the evic mpg dispays higher numbers cruising in 5th in the low/mid 70mph range and haven't noticed that at 65 - so why bother right?

That chart's got to be for the 4x2 stick & based on the old epa - the new epa only gives 29 as the top.

After going to court for reckless driving and having the chance of one night in jail thrown at me, I don't normally speed. (79 in a 55)

However if I am not paying attention, and just keeping up with the car in front of me, I find my self going 75.
