I have a small utility trailer, which weights about 400 pounds. My first job with it was taking a load to the dump, which is about 20 km out of town. Nice smooth ride. Didn't even notice the trailer was there. Drove about 95 kph (60 mph) on a 110 kph (70 mph) highway. My rig got weighed on the way in and on the way out. Turns out the load was 1250 pounds. Add to that the weight of the trailer, and I was hauling about 1650 pounds. On the way home, the trailer bounced all over the place. It pulls easier when it's loaded down.

See attached photo of my rig.

A lot...

I work as a carpenter and use a trailer (l:2.5m/w:1.5m/h:1.5m) to transport my tools and etc. to work everyday. I mild guess is that the trailer weight is somewhere around a 1000-1100 kg (oh yes, metric system it is :p) total, and i drive 85 to 90 km each day. And, since we´re now setting up a cabin, there´s not a lot of paved roads...

The Pat behaves very well when pulling the trailer. I have no problem keeping up with the rest of the traffic on the highway and I usually get a gasmileage around 8 - 9,5 l/100km. :wow: :notworthy:

Of course, I have loaded the trailer carefully regarding the weightdistribution, and after a few attempts, I have found a storage system that give a very smooth ride overall.

I have some pics of the Pat and the trailer somewhere on my phone... I´ll se what I can dig up.

I don't have the trans. cooler. My car came from the factory with the hitch prep group, which included the wiring and an engine oil cooler. My other car, with a three-speed automatic, has a trans cooler. I'm not sure if it's necessary with the CVT.

I have loaded complete bedroom furniture that I purchased disassembled at IKEA.The yard helpers couldn't belive their eyes how much stuff I could fit inside this smaller sized SUV.I could never put so much into my previous Ford Focus station wagon.
And the engine has lots of power. It's true that lower rpm has low torque, the engine likes to run little faster than most motors I have driven previously.

My mistake about the engine cooler. I was thinking of a transmission cooler. Any idea about engine temperature and how it's effected by pulling more weight? How about the effort required by the CVT in pulling 2,000 lbs.

On my heavily-loaded trip to the dump, the engine RPMs were a couple hundred higher on the way there than on the way home. But really, I barely noticed any change in performance, although I didn't try passing any 18-wheelers.

I was at the dealer this morning just to check that everything would be OK to pull 2,000lbs. With the engine oil cooler no problem. The Mopar hitch and wiring harness is at the dealer. I took a look at the wiring harness. It plugs into a connector already on the Pat. I did ask about having hitches and wiring installed by other garages. It does not disqualify the warrenty. However if there is any sort of problem that the dealer identifies with out sourced application it may void the warrenty. I prefer factory parts and installation.

- 2007 FDII
- Mopar hitch (1 1/4" receiver)
- Towed a Motorcycle on a flatbed trailer 800 miles. Towed weight was approx 1000 lbs
- No problems whatsoever. MPG didnt even suffer much (maybe 1-2 MPG less). No significant rear spring sag - the car/trailer setup was quite level.

Have not tried towing up big hills yet

I'll be getting my hitch and wireing harness hooked up at the dealer on Monday. I should be doing some towing in a week or so and let you know how it goies. I'll be over 1,000lbs. With the Engine cooler the rating is 2,000lbs. I'll send pics.
