Hi all,

I bought a 2008 2.4 manual Patriot a couple of weeks ago, unfortunatley I had to take it back to the dealer a few days later due to a couple of issues.

First the heater did not work, they stated that the heater matrix had failed and it would be replaced under warranty, this is getting fitted next week.

I also had a problem when accelerating at slow speeds, it feels like it is stutturing and hesitating in all gears at low rpms unless you accelerate really hard, which obviously is not always possible/advisable.
When it first went into the garage they said they had done a software upgrade, but this did nothing and its exactly the same.

I have read through pages of threads trying to find out what the problem is, but have not really found an answer.

I have asked them to look at the issue again next week, but I was hoping someone on here might have some ideas aswell.

Thanks,

Alex

Well the Patriot went back to the dealers today, new heater matrix fitted which has warmed things up a bit.

Apparently the hesitation problem is normal and 'they all do it' according the the service manager.

Does everybody elses have this issue?

I've got a diesel one so I can't comment but the dealer is an a**e if he claims that!

Congrats on your first Jeep. I too juts got my first, also a 2008 5 speed with a 2.4L. Hopefully you can get it sorted out so you can enjoy it.

Sounds like an ignition problem to me. Plugs, wires, electronics, maybe a sensor? It is getting fuel if it goes when you stomp on it.

My Pat was also diesel so cant help there ... My 2.0 litre GEMA engined Caliber ( CVT ) was tubine smoooth---My 2.4 GEMA engine ( same as in yout Pat ) in my Avenger was also smooth & lump free , even with 4 speed SLUSH Auto box. Having had a number of MOPAR products here in UK Lumpyness & Hesitation does not come as standard !!!Your service manager is possibly more suited to a job in a Cake shop!!!

Could be a fuel filter needs changed. So hard to know what the previous owner did, or didn't do, as far a maintenance. You could try fuel injector cleaner and see what that does. I assume they checked the air filter?

Thanks for the replies, I got the impression that they did'nt check or change anything with regards to the hesitation, I phoned them at 16:15hrs to ask if it was ready, the service manager said it was just about to go on a test drive, so I asked if they had sorted the hesitation issue and he said thats why its going on a test drive and it would be ready in 45mins for me to collect. When I arrived he read the report and stated that he knew exactly what I was complaining about but that they all did it.
I was not really happy, but did not know what else to say.

It does seem to be better if you accelerate heavily, but with the cost of fuel etc I don't want to drive it like that all the time.
I think I will have a look at it myself and possibly change the fuel filter and put some injector cleaner through it.

I was told that it had been serviced when I bought it at the start of December so I would have hoped these issues had been sorted, I bought it from a Jeep main dealer, but not my local one so I have not been able to take it back there and have had to get it looked at by my local Jeep dealer instead.

do the basics

oil, filter, plugs, air filter, injector cleaner

if it's not running smoothly, it's one of only a few things...
the electricity
the air
the fuel
the computer

the hard bit is figuring out which
