Vehicles, such as SUVs, minivans, wagons, with vertical rear surfaces form a backwash in the air at highway speeds, which sucks dust and dirt onto the liftgate. The rear air deflector diverts air down and over the liftgate at highway speeds, preventing dust from coating the rear of the vehicle.

I noticed the heavy accumulation of dirt the first time I drove on a gravel road, so I bought the Mopar deflector. It performs as advertised, and keeps the liftgate free of dirt.

Installation took about an hour and a half. I found the instructions a bit hard to follow, because they contain only illustrations, no text. However, it eventually worked out okay.

Installation involves drilling holes in the top of the liftgate, using a supplied template for accurate positioning. Make sure you have exactly the size of drill bit called for. If not, go buy one. Note that there are three supports. The two on the ends screw down. The one in the middle sticks down with double-sided tape. I noticed that some ad photos don't show the middle one.

I've attached a couple of photos.

Reducing vacuum effect

A couple of inches per gallon, maybe. Nothing that I've noticed. Reducing the vacuum effect behind the vehicle might actually improve mileage.
First, thanks for the photos. Think I'll get one.:)

Secondly, I think you're right about reducing the vacuum effect. Seems I've read about that somewhere...

Hi Neil,

Yes. Thank You.

Do you happen to have any wide shots of the Patriot and the deflector?

Thanks again,
Jim

Neil,

I know you've installed yours so maybe you can help me. I got a little confused on those directions it came with. What is the part J for? Frame #6 is where it's shown but I'm confused where it goes and what it is for.

This may sound Stupid but why can't you use Double Sided 3M Tape instead of drilling at all ? Now I may buy one and try double sided 3M Tape instead of drilling holes. The Tape is very strong. Will the Air pressure rip it off ?

mrJ, I believe you're 100% correct. Thank you!!! The installation continues tomorrow am :pepper: I didn't get a chance to finish it today as my drill's battery was dead.
Cool, glad it helped. I think I saw something similar on another Mopar diagram
