I was on vacation last week and when I returned home on Monday I got in my Patriot to go to work and noticed that the NEW car smell that was left in my vehicle when I left was now replaced with a MOLD, Mildew smell...I could not figure out why so I went to work and when I opened the rear hatch I was floored....THE rear compartment of my NEW Patriot with 4,000 miles was soaked all of my paperwork was soaked and I was so mad...I looked above at the headliner only to see right behind the dome light at the hatch was a spot 4 inches long pouring water from it...It has not rained here since I purchased it a month ago, so this was the first time it had the opportunity to leak. I took it to the dealership to have them take a look. They made an appointment for me on Monday. I am now concerned about rusting at the spare tire compartment where all of the water ran in there, I am concerned about the stain on the headliner and the chance of mold contaimanation...Please tell me that I am not the only one with this issue so far??:(

You are not the only one. There was a post very early in the forum about an 07 that had sloppy work done to it. A rubber grommet was missing above the rear hatch lid that allowed water to get into the car. Lift the rear hatch door and look along the roof section that is exposed when the door opens. Look for any open holes, and make sure you complain to your dealer about it. There also have been numerous posts about sunroofs leaking.

Thank you

I looked at that I think the grommet that you are referring to is the one that the washer hose goes through..I saw it and it appeared to be ok...I do not have a sunroof...I am thankful I am not the only one with the issue..I was really satisfied until now..Eventhough it has been to the dealer 2 times about a signal light that would not cancel when you make a right turn and a defective front strut mount that has ruined the front tire already...WOW,,, maybe I should have kept my Mazda...

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. That does not mean you have a bad car, all cars have SOME problems. I hope they gave you a new tire, and I hope that's the end of your problems.

That is totally unacceptable, and I wouldn't let up until it's made right. This would include a satisfactory explanation/fix for the problem, and the replacement of any soft items (carpets, fabrics) that got wet.

There have been a number of entry points for water where you do not have a sunroof as far as I can recall. The roof rack mounting areas, above the rear hatch and the dash area. Someone mentioned that on an early 07 the guy at the plant did a terrible job laying down the weather stripping.

And you are right, eeyun, there is no excuse for a car that leaks. I had a Chevy Impala that leaked from above the windshield and a Plymouth Valiant that leaked from the A/C. It actually tossed ice cubes at you when it was cooling the car! I also had a 68 Cougar XR-7 that would fill the trunk with water when it rained. Oh yeah, almost forgot my Subaru's with sunroofs...The only cars with built-in waterfall displays!

I've said this in other posts, but these are are Manufacturing quality issues. Most of us do not have water (even with sunroof), but many are experiencing leaks.

The best thing to do is not only go to the dealer, but call the 1-800 number for Jeep and report it.

If Jeep does not want to lose face, they should do a re-call and check all the seals and grommets on the 07/08 Patriots.

This is too nice of a car -design- to lose its momentum over poor manufacturing.
