I can see the basket for stuff like, shovel, farm jack, skis, canoe, paddles, deer, and maybe a pod if you wanted to have clothes, or groceries. I would want to limit the weight, especially on the highway, to avoid rollovers.

What do you guys who have them use them for?
Gas cans, water, 2nd spare tire, recovery tools.

I bought the heavy duty crossbars. Use them to haul lumber, doors, building materials, since I lost my pickup truck during "cash for clunkers". I miss my pickup truck. :(

I would say nothing at all, but that would be a lie... I actually use it when I'm washing the car. I use the tire as a step then I hold to the bar so I can wash and soap the roof :)

I don't use it very often. I modified my cross bars so they come off. I store them down with the spare tire. I knew I had to keep them in the car for when I do need them, but didn't plan on it.

Christmas tree. (solstice holiday tree)
4x8 sheets of wood
long 2x4s and pipes
unassembled, boxed items that won't fit in the car.

Don't all cross bars come off? Or you modified them to come off easier? Good idea on keeping them with the spare tire, I was thinking the same thing but didn't know if they would fit.

I use mine to kill bugs, raise the interior dB level and reduce my fuel efficency...

Mine is just taking up space right now... I have a Roof Basket which was removed for cause it was a POS and rusting on me after all the rain we had in NY this year (should have gotten an Aluminum One). Ebay Cross Bars are Holding up Great and are still on for now. Once I get a Christmas Tree for X-Mas they are coming off for the rest of the Winter. Easier Snow Removal without them on and in the way...

Once Spring Hits all are back on the roof accept the Roof Basket I need to find a suitable replacement.

Not sure if they fixed them, but in 08 you had the drill a hole and push the pin out to remove the cross bars. It was a really stupid way to make them.

Don't have one yet, plan on getting one though.....I want to be able to put extra gear up there in in case of a zombie outbreak! ;)

All good points about the downside to leaving them installed year round. But, your setup looks awesome Murman! Are those the Mopar 'production style' cross bars? Also, details on the roof basket? Any more pictures?
Thank you. Yes, they are Mopar stock cross bars. I had to replace the stock screw knobs w/ machine screws to allow the basket to rest on the cross bars (not rest on the knobs).

This pic shows the rack resting on the knobs...

I store my fishing rods in them when driving to the keys... living in extreme South FL, I fish mostly Saltwater, my rods average 8ft, my reels thicker than the cargo basket. (bungee cords make sure I don't lose hundreds of dollars)

I use mine for carrying the float tubes, fins, waders and boots so they do not mess up the inside. That was the main reason for getting it.
