Well I made de decision, next week I'm going to chiptune my Patriot 2.0CRD.
I've been searching the web for months, browsing all kind of forums to find a tuner who can be trusted in my region  I went for BR-perfomance. (http://www.br-performance.be/nl-be/home/)

The promissed specs ;
from 136hp to 175, and from 320nm to 400nm.

This includes benchmark test before and after the tuning .. so I'm pretty exited to be honest. I will write some feedback after the tuning is done.

570 Euros so about ÂŁ495 or $785 US or $765 Aus....be interested to see how it works out for you....what part of Belgium are you in?

Will be good to see the printouts from before and after and your thoughts on driveability afterwards.

They had a promo until the end of the month, so it will only cost me 490€.
I live in Hoegaarden (where they make the white beer, close to the source).

I'll scan the test results and post them here.

Sounds interesting.....look forward to results !!

Borderspeed - you didn't mention your thing....for a fraction of the proposed price

Yeah I know, I was going to but as he has done his reseach he has obviously decided to go down the chip tuning route and to be honest if I had the spare cash I would probably have opted for that too...however I am happy with what I chose and I am able to disconnect and remove it for servicing purposes when its at the dealer and for when my wife is going to be driving the Jeep!!!;):D

Hi there, as promissed some feedback after the tuning, the performance now is 176HP and 386Nm. The differance is bigger then I expected, less turbo lag, way more torque in 5th and 6th gear with makes it more fun when you want to pass a car on the highway. And the fuel consumption dropped already 0.5 l on only 40km (6.7L/100km).

here is the link from the performance measurement before and after the tuning

The lines with the dots is the HP and the straight line is the Nm, black line is before, and blue after.
I'll add some more comments in a week or so.

Just wondering why these diesels would not come from the factory in this state of tune. Seems like a win win situation or is there some downside?

My Patriot seems very lively so I'm wondering if it's been tweeked already. How do I tell? Would there be something installed between the ECU and the harness or something else?

I don't know how it is where you live, but here we have to pay the yearly taxes based on the kw that thecarproduces, and the ensurance is also based on het hp. So I guess that is one of the reasons why they keep it lower.
There are differant types of tuning, I had my ecu reprogrammed, so that is something that can not be noticed unless you hook it up to a computer. Another option is a powerbox, and that is indeed a little box that is hooked up on the ecu. But i read several negative experiance with that ( but lots cheaper).

Thanks Cyberdrone. I live in the UK so tax is based on emissions but I suspect that they wouldn't distinguish between vehicles for other Euro countries where horsepower is the issue.

I can't see any add ons so if anything has been done it must be a flash of the ECU. It just seems very quick for an SUV.

I'm glad it worked well for you. I recently found a website that did impartial tests on dozens of performance chips. Most did absolutely nothing, and several had a negative result on performance and fuel consumption. Many were outright scams. Anyone interested in performance chips needs to do their homework.

What's the horizontal scale on the graph? RPMs?

Diesels leave the factory to be all things to all men !! Average acceleration, Average fuel consumption,Average top speed, Average emissions . If they banged them out of the factory with 180 BHP , in the UK this would affect your emmissions & road tax , not to mention putting it in a far higher Insurance group ( I only paid ÂŁ230 fully comp. for my pat , no way would I pay ÂŁ450 plus , for insurance. ) Plus the factory would feel obliged to fit beefier suspension & brakes for the extra power, so now you have a cheap little Patriot for ÂŁ30,000 !!!! not exactly a bargain. Yea chipping or re-mapping yourself is far better, but dont forget to inform your Insurance company or they will Invalidate your Insurance in the event of an accident !!

Nice to see a fellow Belgian is posting here. :)

176 hp surly feels a lot better than the standard 136 hp I bet !!

I'm also interested in your fuel comsumption.
I only get 6.5 when I drive 110 km on highway and don't go any faster.
.... that's a little slow over here in Belgium.

Greating, Mr Mooze

Indeed it drives a lot better with the extra HP and torque.
About the fuelconsumpion, well, on my daily dive to work and back (50km in total) it does not make a differance (7l/100km). But when I drive longer distances at 120km/u it drops to 6l/100km. A lot of people wonder it it is worth the extra €, I think it does :)

can you chiptune a US FD1 CVT?

If you went to a tuning firm who could download the map from the ECU then tweak it and upload a new map then I don't see why not.
