I'm looking to get new tires, I have the 17" rims, P215/65R, and was looking for suggestions for reasonably priced replacements. I don't need any off-road tires, my main priorities are wet and snowy road traction and reasonable wear. I don't need winter tires, just something that will get me through the moderate winter snow events we get.

Was pricing tires at Sam's and came up with these:

BF Goodrich Advantage T/A 215/65R17 99T
BF Goodrich Touring T/A 215/65R17 99T
P215/65R17 98T Goodyear Integrity
P215/65R17 98T Goodyear® Assurance® Touring

I'm obviously not looking to break the bank, but have no clue what might be good.

Thanks for any feedback!

The 1st thing you want to do is get those 2 GY tires off your list( and IMO GY tires period ). GY makes some god AWFUL tires. The Integrity tires especially. They will be ok for about the 1st 10K but then they go downhill fast( i.e. wear )and become dangerous in any weather let alone snow or rain. Typical GY tire issue. You couldn't pay me to run GY tires. They are generally awful. They have a couple "ok" tires but for the most part GY tires on the whole are overpriced junk. IMOA.

The other GY on your list( Assurance ComforTred Touring )are a relativly new tire from GY. They appear to be made well for the most part from the spec's. Reviews of them are pretty good but I have seen tires debut with rave reviews only to fall off after people have them for a while. To me though I wouldn't consider that kind of money for a GY. You can get the same overall performance from another brand and for far less usually. I haven't run them myself/know anyone who has like the Integrity's so I can't really say much other than I don't trust them based on the mfg. IF you want a GY they are probably a decent tire( based on GY quality )but will be overpriced vs the competition.

BFG generally makes a decent tire. Have used the Advantage TA's on a couple cars and they have performed well in our New England winters and they wear good. Kind of $$$ though. I would recommend them over the Touring TA no question.

Seeing as you don't mind a passenger car style tire I would suggest you look around and find a Hankook dealer or order online. The Hankook Optimo H727 is a pretty good tire for the money, is available in you desired size, and they come with a 5 year/100K tread warranty. They do very well in bad weather and have really good tread life. There is a promotion going on right now where you get a $50 rebate on a set of 4 H727's as well. 12/32 tread depth new and an excelent UTQG( Uniform Tire Quality Grade = Treadwear/Traction/Temperature Resistance )of 700AB. A lot of tire for the money. If I were to not upsize so I could get a true light truck/suv class tire I would probably run these on my Patriot when it comes time to replace the stock tires.

EDIT - just for compariosn sake here is a comparison of the H727 vs the tires you mention as far as UTQG ratings & tread depth new...

GY Assurance ComforTred Touring = 740AB & 12/32
H727 = 700AB & 12/32
BFG Advantage TA = 680AB 11/32
BFG Touring TA = 560AA & 10/32
GY Integrity = 460AB & 10/32

So the GY Assurance ComforTred Touring tires have the best spec's but the H727's are very close and will be about $30-$50 less p/tire.

I cannot wait to toss my GY Wranglers.

After much research, I am going to go with the Hankook Optimo H727 when it comes time to replace tires. Quiet tires will be nice.

I do run a different set of winter wheels/tires.

general grabbe2 at2

same tread design as bfgoodrich a/t but way cheaper with a 60k treadlife warranty
The tread is similar but they are not the same. Neither is available in the OE tire sizes, or even 225/65R17, either.

Smallest BFG AT is LT225/70R17
Smallest Grabber AT2 is LT235/80R17

Hi, New to forum. Had my 2011 Jeep Patriot for about a month now, love it. But, I would love to lift it and put a little bigger tire on it. Don't know much about this but, can I put 18" or 19" tires on without lift kit? And if I do lift it, does it void the warranty? Any thoughts? Thanks!!

I will let others talk about the tire size but to answer the warranty question = yes lifts do cause a lot of warranty hassle. IMO do not do it if warranty is a concern of yours.

If you are looking for good winter traction without a dedicated winter tire in the stock size your best bet is the Hankook Optimo H727. It gets great winter traction reviews from consumer reports and is reasonably priced. If you are willing to go up a size to 225 65R17 and up in price, you should consider the Goodyear Fortera TripleTred and the nokian wrg2. They are both excellent (and pricy) tires. They both have a ton of siping for winter traction and have the 'mountain and snowflake' winter traction emblem. I just bought the fortera's. I got them at america's tire for $800.

Hankook Optimo H727

I replaced my OEM 215/65/17 Goodyear Wrangler SRAs with the same size Hankook Optimo H727. The SRAs were worn down to the 2/32" indicators at 31K miles and had become noisy and harsh. The tire noise and harshness are gone; I feel like I have a new Patriot!
I am like the OP on tires, i.e. my 2WD Patriot is used exclusively on-road. FWIW I prefer the blackwall look over the raised white letters look of the SRAs.
I purchased the Hankooks from Pep Boys, which is the first time I've bought tires from them. PB was about $100 less for the set AND had a 'buy 3 get the 4th tire free' rebate ... so the set will be about $200 less than Discount Tire (who I normally use for tires). There is also a $50/set manufacturer rebate going on now.
