Was doing some surfing and came across a video of someone in a Patriot doing a 20 mph to 85 mph run. Just got me wondering what the fastest Patriot is, and what top speeds "normal" people drive at. This is all as indicated on the speedo, all speeds in MPH because I'm to lazy to think about kilos and milos and all the other -os those other places use. :D Since I don't have a Patriot, I'll just tell you.

Top speed in the Rubicon: 95 mph, no tops or doors. After about 70 the wind just feels the same.

Top speed in the Charger: 129.2 (it has a "high score" indicator)

Top speed on the Kawasaki Z1000: I don't look down at high speeds to check, but I try to maintain 125 as I go through Why?-oming. No reason for that state so you might as well try to get through it quickly. I'd guess pushing 140 is the fastest I've gone on the meat grinder.

Top speeding ticket: 114 in a 75, in a Ford Taurus. I still call bs on that though. The speed limit WAS reasonable and prudent, so I grew up with the floor board as my cruise control. Then all of a sudden some out of stater sued, and the speed limit was determined to be to vague. So suddenly what had always been reasonable and prudent was suddenly "reckless" based on a stupid number. Luckily the state of MT also realized this was dumb. Ticket on the road side, advised to "slow down" and I was on my way. Scheduled phone call to the judge, $75 fine mailed in and that was the end of it.

I hit 70 MPH( 65 zone )on the highway in the Patriot a couple times when cruising along and not paying as close attention as I normally do. I usually set CC at 60MPH as I am concerned about MPG plus I just don't believe in speeding. 60 MPH is plenty fast enough out on the highway.

Speeding is dangerous for you and everyone else on the road. If you want to travel faster than the posted speed limit( up to 5 MPH over is generally considered ok )go to the track.

Slow down and save a life! I always laugh at people who lecture me for not wearing a seatbelt who buckle up then go 90 on the highway.

I generally drive the posted limit, or slightly above, but tickets are too damn expensive these days to take a chance.

Oh, and I am always chasing rainbows too. Got one on Sunday, even got a photos with the Patriot in the foreground, and rainbow in the background. And got another photo of one yesterday on the way to my brother-in-law's for dinner. I was late so didn't get to "pose" the Jeep for the photo.

There's one on here somewhere with the Jeep in front of a rainbow too.

try going 85 through the northern cali mountains.. ohhhh yaaaaa. it makes my fiancee so uneasy. but i know the jeep well and can feel it quite well so know its abilities.

Going below the posted limit is dangerous for you and everyone else on the road. If you want to travel slower than the speed of traffic choose a side road.

I went from a Huyndai Tiburon to the Patriot and the minute I sat in the Pat....I didn't want to do speeding. The Tiburon was not a mean sport car but behind the wheel I was always driving a little bit faster than the speed limit.

But with the Patriot....I just cruze and fallow the trafic :)

i usually stick to the speed limits or go very slightly above.
except when i drive in germany (at least once a year),when i push the pat to the limit.
i managed 200km/h (125 mph) with my 2.0 crd.

I am speeder. I live in Chicago, its congested usually, but I typically go 40 mph on the main streets, but I stick to 20-30 on side streets because the side streets can be really tight and kids, pets, etc can pop out from behind parked cars. On the expressway I have gone as fast as 130 mph in the wife's old Eclipse. Topped out my '04 Grand Prix all the time (governed at 112) but it never felt like you were going that fast. In the Patriot I got up to 100 in Indiana because so dumbass was playing leap frog with me. I'd pass him on the left and get a dozen car lengths ahead. Then he would speed up, and pass me and slow down and then I'd pass him again, etc. I finally got really annoyed and took off got her up around 100 and passed a few trucks. Never saw the guy after that.

Speeding is dangerous, driving slow is dangerous, driving itself is dangerous. The most dangerous thing is not paying attention and driving outside of your ability.

Got stuck in a really bad rain storm in Iowa few months back, I could barely see the road, worse than that, I could not feel the road. I pulled off the road and waited for the storm to pass. It took us 5 hours to get to Ottumwa, 8 hours to get home!

While I typically drive the speed limit, I cannot resist testing the top end of any vehicle I own. With that being said, I have had the riot up to 105 MPH.

The fastest I have ever driven a car was about 130 MPH in a 99 BMW M3. I have also driven a WRX STi, a Trans-Am WS6, a BMW M5, a Mitsubishi 3000GT, and a Ford P71(police interceptor). They were all very quick, but I was never able to see what they would do. The scariest car I have driven was an '84 VW rabbit with a 2.0L out of a '90 Jetta shoehorned into it. I'm not sure how fast it went, the speedometer stopped working after you hit 40 MPH. It had a roll cage in it, both front seats had 5-point harnesses, and there were helmets in a box where the back seat used to be.

1 - I am far less of a danger to myself and others going 60 MPH in a 65 MPH zone on the highway than morons going 75, 80, 85+.

2 - Around here the minimum POSTED highway speed is 45 MPH.

3 - 60 MPH is more than fast enough for any highway. Even when the speed limit is 65. I stay in the middle or to the right and let those with a death wish and heavy foot fly down the left lane.

Speed limits are out of date based on vehicle safety improvements. But it seems more people are on the road these day with more and more distractions. If driving license requirements were more difficult and people drove with just driving in mind, we could raise the speed limit.

Go to Montana or Texas and drive all over the state at 60 mph. You'll quickly tire of it. 60 mph may be fine out east, I've never been there so I can't say, but when you have a 100 mile round trip on I-90 to get to the grocery store 60 mph really sucks. We didn't even live in a place I would necessarily call remote.

I agree 60mph sucks...on any highway. I really hate it when some one drives below the speed limit in the fast lane....I do alot of long distance driving (sounds like a sport) and 75-80 is perfect.

160 mph camaro SS down hill and sucked up a tank doing so

115 mph dodge dakota

jeep patriot...have not tried ...yet:D

118 mph is the fastest speed my gps has ever tracked it at. That is when the speed limiter kicks in (aka the rev limiter in 4th gear)... The patriot has soo much drag that at that speed in 5th gear, it actually looses speed until ~112 mph which it will sort of coast at, downhill with a tailwind.

Back in '08 shortly after I took delivery of my Patriot--the big deal then--besides the leaks--was the "flappin' hood". So, with a little assistance of a couple of my law enforcement buddies, I did a run on a back road of 100 mph and reported here--no flappin' hood here in CA. In retrospect, if anyone actually observed this "speed trial" it would have been interesting to see a county Sheriff's car leading a red Patriot, followed by a local city PD car--out of its jurisdiction, being led and followed by code 3 units. Ah, the joys of living in a small town where you know everyone!

If you try to drive across Montana length-wise at 60 mph you will die of old age.

hahaha And if you drive across South Dakota at 60mph your eyes will become permanently stuck staring straight ahead due to lack of anything to look at.

I'll agree, 60mph is too fast for the residential road in front of my apartment complex. But for a highway, not to mention an interstate, 60 is quite slow. And apparently the autobahn doesn't exist because if 70 is too fast, 100+ must mean instant vaporization...

Anyways, I've had mine up to maybe 90 or so passing people on the highway. And it actually gets up to 90 surprisingly quick when you drop her down into 4th gear...

Nice! :) How did the Patriot feel like at that speed?

I haven't visited any autobahns with mine so the top speed I've drive is 140km/h - about 85mph. Feels just fine at that speed, as long as the conditions are suitable for it (no heavy cross wind etc.).
