http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2011/08/jeep-grand-wagoneer-3-row-suv-coming-in-2013-plus-three-fiat-based-models.html

Maybe someone has already posted about this, but I came across this article. This is the first I am hearing this and its exciting!

"The 2014 model year will see the return of the Grand Wagoneer badge to a Jeep. Set to arrive in 2013 it will share its underpinnings with the Dodge Durango, with three rows and seven seats. Likely to be offered with both the Pensatar V6 and the Hemi V8, this model could be the first use of Chrysler’s new 8-speed automatic transmission in a Jeep. That same auto-box is expected to make its way into the Grand Cherokee as well."

It has come up before but each time I'm both excited and fearful. Obviously the Wagoneer name should never have lapsed. The return is a good thing. However, I fear the styling will be another abomination of the model like the lame attempt in 1993 of slapping wood grain on a ZJ. The angular styling and unique foreword sloping grill make a Wagoneer a Wagoneer. See Suzy-Q's photoshop of the Commander as a new Wagoneer concept to understand what I mean.

It only makes sense... and the Durango is essentially a 7 passenger version of the Grand Cherokee, available NOW... so why not make a 7 passenger Grand and call it a Wagoneer?

For the compact class, Jeep will unveil its replacement for the Compass, based on Fiat’s CUSW platform. Offered in both front and all-wheel drive versions, the first CUSW-based model to arrive will be a new Alfa Romeo crossover in 2012, so look for much of that vehicle to be carried over. While the Patriot is expected to be axed, the Liberty will live on, representing the future of the mid-size Jeep and using a larger version of the CUSW platform, appropriately named CUSW Plus.
This could get really interesting really quick. I'd like to see that new Liberty

Hard to believe they can drop the Patriot and Compass and still meet the new EPA requirements for mileage. Some automakers are only going to make the new requirements by having electric cars in their line-up.

Someone needs to make an electric Jeep, with a motor for each wheel.

Well the future mpg requirements begs the question...will we EVER be off of gasoline? Or is this new requirement solely put together to end it? Do manufacturers already have the technology to make a vehicle that will get 56 mpg by 2025?

"a vehicle" Yes. No doubt.
A vehicle anyone want's to be seen in.......:icon_rolleyes:

Will it be a remastered Commander utilizing the Durango platform?
I don't know why it always seemed to me the Commander was the great-grandson of the Wagoneer...

The 2008 Jeep Renegade Concept, shown at NAIAS, is “a sporty B-segment-sized two-seater ideally suited for the all-weather delights of off-roading and dune surfing. Featuring a cut-down speedster windshield, a roll bar, openings in the door lowers and a hose-out interior, it is an ‘eco-friendly’ vehicle with minimized use of materials – designed for those who want to enjoy the earth while taking care of its future. The propulsion system combines a 40-mile lithium-ion battery pack and a small-displacement BLUETEC diesel engine. The result: fuel economy of more than 110 miles per gallon.”“With an electric motor powering each axle, the Jeep Renegade concept is designed for a ‘hang on and have fun experience,’” said Tony Shamenkov, Jeep Renegade concept principal exterior designer.
