So the wife and I were planning to go to the family cabin this weekend. I had to work today so we had to take seperate vehicles so she took the Patriot and I got the Nissan Sentra. Anyway she calls an hour ago in the middle of tornado conditions / hard rain and now the windshield is leaking. In the last 3 weeks my suspension/ball joints(wherever the noise is coming from) has started to squeak and now the dreaded leaking windshield. I knew about the possibility of these things popping up before I bought it and hoped it would never be me.... Now I get to drive to the cabin and spend the weekend with her family that told me to never buy the thing in the first place. Sucks because I like the vehicle but even if they can fix it, I may get rid of it..

Sitting here with the power out(using cell phone internet) which suck but at least your post made me laugh.

damn that sucks, it seems like 1 in 5 posters here are reporting leaking patriots. If you can get it fixed it should be a recall issue. if not raise the BS flag. The Patriot is an awsome little SUV (aside from the leaks) keep us posted and let us know if you need any help.

I just got my Patriot last month and it's an 07 w/ 50k miles. Haven't had a single problem with water leaking in. I live in Florida so when it rains, it pours. I've heard about the rear leaking and that is due to poor application of the sealant (from the factory). I'm thinking, your windshield could be leaking possibly b/c it may not be the original windshield??? If you bought it used, who knows if the original owner might have had to get it replaced due to someone putting a baseball into it... I've also read another thread on this forum that the passenger side started spraying fluid on the member's wife... That's b/c there is a grommet in the firewall behind the glove that she could have kicked??? I mean, they have to get the tube from the front of the reservoir to the back window some how right?

Anyway, if you have full coverage on your insurance they will replace the windshield at no cost to you. It depends on which state you live in. I have a buddy who just got his windshield replaced on his Audi TT and didn't cost him a thing. He got it replaced b/c there were a few normal chips on it. If you get a free replacement, they might install it correctly so there will be no leaking. Just my .02 cents.

Made me laugh lol. I believe in the same thing. Cheers.

The vehicle was purchased brand new by me in November of 2009. I still love the vehicle, however the wife does not. Probably because she associates the Patriot with the tornado conditions/hard rain/leaking she went thru this weekend. I have calmed down a little and if they fix both issues, I will be happy. I like what it can do and it is great on long trips and around town. One thing I wish I could do though is load my golf clubs without putting the seat down. Oh well, what can you do? Will be taking it into the dealer this week perhaps.

After talking to the wife, and doing some investigating, it seems that the leak may have been coming from the top of the firewall above the hood. Kinda hard to recreate that unless you are driving through a hard rainstorm but I will see what they can do for me.

Geez, what kind of clubs / bag do you have? I can have my clubs diagonal and they fit. I can fit both my bag of clubs and the folding cart... You probably have one of those huge touring bags. :p , I also have the huge taylormade burner driver that I get ripped on from friends saying it's a cheater club and I look like Mickey Mouse.

Here's a photo of my clubs in the cargo space. Just barely fits!

... Back to topic :)

Ya, at least it's a minor water leak that can get fixed (hopefully easy). My previous car eclipse gt had a musty smell as if there was a rain leak somewhere. My wife's civic has that same smell (dirty feet), so it must be some kind of bacteria / mold growing somewhere due to a leak. So, it's not just the Pat :)

Anyway, good luck w/ the leak!

... Come to think of it. You could probably take the driver out and your bag could fit.

I love my Jeep. First SUV I've ever owned and couldn't ever go back to driving on the ground. I had to put both seats down in my old car to make my clubs fit.

Ok, other members are probably rolling their eyes now... I'll shut up.

An ex's car had that dirty feet smell as well, and it drove me nuts for a while. I finally traced the moisture back to a plugged AC condensate drain......

Well I can fit it if the driver leans on the subwoofer housing. I guess I could take the driver out but apparently I enjoy nitpicking. At least I don't have the dirty feet smell. This is the first and only time it has leaked. Tried pouring buckets of water on it last night and did not leak so I am pretty sure it came in from the firewall directly behind the hood. Also the wife said that she never saw dripping, more of a spraying in from behind the left dash tweeter.

I had to pay a small fee to have windshield replaced when a stone cracked it. But I think the replacement is far superior to what was in there. Plus, its guaranteed not to leak - lifetime warranty for the vehicle.

If it were raining hard enough, it is possible more rain was entering the air intake for the heating system than the drain could handle. Thus causing water to enter the cabin.

Maybe your wife was driving like 80 mph in the bad conditions. j/k :) I do think severe winds could cause water to swirl around the engine bay possibly causing the water entering the cabin. If this is the first time you've witnessed the water splashing/spraying inside the cabin and unable to reproduce it, I wouldn't worry about. I think jepstr is onto something as for the heating system. There are vents for the defrost that could have caused all the forced winds and spray through. On my previous cars just sitting at a red turning light and other cars driving by would cause so much wind pressure that I could hear the rubber cabin valve flap open and close. I don't experience this with the Pat. :D

Well, today is the day I go to the dealership to get these issues addressed. Hopefully they can figure it out.

Now I get to drive to the cabin and spend the weekend with her family that told me to never buy the thing in the first place.
EVERY car in the industry has issues. Most cars also are sourced from the same parts suppliers, across models, and auto companies.

FWIW the patriots issues are rather little compared to some other cars...

Most of the time, when people tell you not to buy something, they just have a stigma against it, and have no idea what they are talking about, or how the industry works.

I would tell her fam to shove it ;)

Well I was mostly venting my frustrations. I really don't know what else is out there that I would want. The Patriot is what I wanted. I remember them saying buy an explorer or something else. They own all Nissans which are nice vehicles but did not want one. Love the looks of the Patriot and the functionality. Anyway, went to the dealer today and replaced and resealed a grommet on the drivers side A-pillar. They were able to get it to leak so hopefully that is fixed. You never really know until another severe storm rolls around. The low pitched squeaking noise was supposedly pinpointed to a noisy strut which they had to order a part for. We will see how it all plays out but I am feeling better about the situation. FYI I pretty much did tell them to shove it from day 1 by buying the Jeep in the first place. I like Jeeps and as long as they are producing vehicles that I like, i will probably buy.
