Good morning all.
I picked up a 2011 Patriot a couple of days ago. It will be used as a work rig, so I've got a little customizing to do to make it work. I just downsized from a Nissan Titan, and can't wait to be able to pass the gas stations without filling up.

What I've learned so far  An extension ladder will fit just fine on the cross bars, but the rear door will not open when it's up there-- d'oh.

A 6' step ladder will fit inside, but the seats need to be folded down to make it work. Also, since the rear door won't open, ya' gotta take the dang extension ladder off to get the ladder out.

Welcome to the site!

It is neat to see a "working" PAT.

I bet the ladder on the roof does not help the MPG.

Would 4X4 vinyl fence post material, attached the the roof rails as "cross bars", give you the height needed to clear the lift gate?

ahh i believe we spoke on jeepforum haha im glad it worked for ya! a really good bolt on and low priced mod would be a 2in hitch. maybe an intercooler if your serious about towing i use mine for recovery point while 4x4ing. got it for 80$ on craigslist.

I've ordered a roof basket with an extension, so I'm sure it will get worse once that's delivered. I should easily get twice the mileage of the Titan . I bought the 2.0 manual, so I'm hoping mileage will be alright.

Not really. By pulling the ladder and using my "eye level", I figure I need about 12" of lift to leave the rear of the ladder where it's at. I bought a basket and extension so that I can overhang the front of the basket. That way, I can shift the entire ladder forward. My buddy is metal fab guy with his own shop, so I can customize the heck out of the basket if need be. He was all ready to build me an entire system at the cost of materials, but once he started talking about how much time he was going to put into it, I felt bad and just ordered a basket that can be customized.

Man, I knew I recognized your name when I posted on my other topic-- thanks for all of the reply's. I ordered the 1 1/4" hitch from trailerparts.com since I can only tow 1500lbs anyways.

sounds good. I was thinking maybe another tie down point for ladder and you can get a cargo carrier and always good recovery point for 4x4s haha. glad you got the patriot I've enjoyed about 23-24 mpg average for an automatic sure beats my old Chevy haha. and if your interested in tow hooks a guy bobknake i think from this forum found them from 158 + shipping you'll have to cut 2 dollar sized holes in front bumper but its all what you want to do...

the 158 is a big deal since alot of shops tried selling them seperate for that price lol 320.00 at justforjeeps.com

I'm probably going to regret it, but I got the 2 wheel drive version because it was cheaper, slighly less maintenance, and got slightly better gas mileage. I've never had a non 4x4 rig before, but this will make me use this one for work only.

So.....maybe I do need the tow hooks so you all can pull me out.

haha right on! the tow hooks is kinda a job to say the least but heres the link

http://www.partswebsite.com/pollardmopar/index.php?i=2&type=parts&partnum=accept

the part number is 82212577 just do a parts search after entering your jeep info. there is a tow hook install with pics on the website too.

since you have 2011 you might want to order the lower fascia with the tow hook holes (make sure you order the hook kit because they sell them individually too and its way way cheaper for the kit.

the link above is bobknake installing them on his 2011 patriot.
