I've been doing a little research, and it looks like there are a couple of places that would custom design an air suspension for one's vehicle.

Further, I've read on a couple forums where posters felt that the only independent suspension that could work as well as a solid axle is air suspension such as what we see in an LR3.

Then I've also read that adding an air suspension doesn't replace adding a lift kit. So I'm guessing that one needs a lift kit and the air suspension.

Can anyone shed a little light on this? Also, I realize these things cost a good amount....I don't care. I just want to know what the deal is with them.

I wonder the same myself.

Once up to speed my Patriot flies on the freeway around corners much better than my parents' 01 Grand Cherokee. Lifting would take away some of this sedan-like performance. But higher ground clearance would allow access to some more gnarly trailheads.

The Patriot would be perfect if it could have higher ground clearance when needed, and be able to lower back down to stock (or even lower) for asphalt driving.

I guess I'm not adding any new information, just adding to the wishlist.
