hi folks,

just picked up my patriot and when looking over the introductory info noticed that synthetic rear diff is not specified, nor is it obvious that crankcase oil is synthetic. any reason they cannot be used for a '11?

just wondering if it's ok by omission, or not ok by omission.

thanks,

stan

You can deffinitely use synthetic in you rear diff and PTU. I worked for chrysler for 5 years as a tech and also have run synthetics in my patriot since bought 3 years ago and no issues. if you want to stick with mopar you can run there 75W-140 synthetic in your PTU and rear diff. The factory non synthetic 80W-90 is not that great and I have seen PTU's fail with this oil. The best place for synthetics is Amsoil.com. You just enter your vehicle and they will tell you what is available for the patriot.

thanks, i was kinda surprised and thought maybe it was related to the seals and gaskets not liking synthetics.

how about the crankcase, synthetics used there ok? i hope...

If you use Valvoline SynPower in your motor and change it every 4000 miles, they will guarantee your motor for 300,000 miles. Please check out the Valvoline site for all the details. I'm not affiliated with them. I have a new ('11) Patriot and I'm registered and on the program.
