The EPA fuel economy ratings have a purpose.

Seriously, there are two factors that will affect fuel economy with the patriot on the highway. Transmission and speed. They seem to get a lot worse fuel economy at 80mph than 55mph, more so than other vehicles I have experience with. The manual will do better than the CVT.

This is very true, with my heavy tires driving in the summer (well spring now too sicne it's finally here) I avg 8.5l per 100kms (27"ish mpg) and I have a FDII but I drive 95kms\h (59mph) on my commute to work with is about 65 miles (130 round trip) This is all measured by my scan guage. I've always gotten decent mileage with my cvt, its all in the speed you drive and not letting the enginer rev alot. I do have a warm air intake which has helped my mileage go up. Once I get my 18" compass rims installed with lighter tires i expect my mileage to go up even more.

According to the EVIC I'm currently averaging 10.5L/100KM in mixed driving, with the majority of it being city driving. This works out to be about 22.5mpg (US GALLONS)

I'm driving a 2011 Patriot Limited FDI (Latitude X) that is little over a month old with about 3500KMs (2100 miles) on it.

You forgot temperature. Patriots are nasty on fuel until they get up to operating temp.

In my exp. so far with the 4x4 we have (previously owned a 4X2 'till it was t-boned) you will be lucky to get 25mpg, just as the salesman said.
However, what you will also get is a Jeep! and that is friggin' awesome!

25mpg where? My FD 1 5-speed gets 23-24 city and easily 28-30 on the highway....

Same here. With a little restraint on the gas pedal, 30 is pretty common on long highway trips.

Stamping the gas to the floor with a CVT doesn't do anything but waste fuel. The CVT won't really let the car accelerate any faster by stamping it to the floor than slow steady increase in power. The 5 speed is only handicapped by the drivers skill at shifting.

Interesting....
My best highway mileage so far in the 2011 4X4 is 9.1 (about 25.7)
However, in my 2010 4x2 the best highway mileage was 6.9 (about 33.9)

these are the best numbers, not the average.

Best I did so far was 552KM with 1 tank (i put 49L of gas that night in the tank so i still had like 2-3L left in it)

The needle was starting to go --below-- the empty mark.:p

I'll try to beat that this summer... but so far im fine with doing around 500 to 525km with 1 tank....

I managed to fit 12.9 gallons in the tank last week. So I had just over half a gallon left. My signal goes on at 11.5 gallons. I drove about 38 miles after that. I had a terrible head wind for that last 30 miles or so.

Just had a trip this weekend. Strictly hiway mileage. Made 7.2 litres per 100km (32.7mpg). That's exactly what the Jeep.ca website states.
However, my average over the last 3 months is only 9.4 litres per 100km (25.1mpg) 60% city

congrats. Patty mpg works as advertised.

Now if you cruised within posted speed limit, you would have done better the govt EnerGuide numbers. LOL.:smiley_thumbs_up:
Actually, I did drive the speed limit. And more than 70% of the trip was pure flat highway. lol

I'm not sure how much better I can get the mileage.

It sounds like you are more than exceeding the 25 mpg's you were previously lucky to get. Congrats and keep it up!

I just drove to Scranton, PA and back which is about 700 miles, round-trip. On the way there, 250 miles were on the highway, the remaining 100 were on windy roads through the mountains, I got 25.4 mpg. I forgot to reset the trip odometer in Scranton when I got gas, so I couldn't track on the return trip, but I took the highway for the entire trip to avoid a bottleneck in a small town.
