Hello everyone, i am in the market for a used Pariot to use as my daily driver to and from work. I have found two to choose from, but i cant make up my mind.

The first is a 2007 sport with 42000 miles on it. The options as far as i can tell are.
Automatic
4x4 fdI?
Power windows
Sunroof

The other is a 2008 sport with 34000 miles on it. The options as far as i can tell are.
Automatic
Power windows
2 wheel drive
Sunroof
Heated Seats

So the main differences are the 2007 has more miles but 4x4 and the 2008 has less miles but only front drive. Both are the same price $13,500 with no haggling .... yet.

So is it worth having the 4x4? I do live in the Chicago area and we do get snow.

Thanks for your input!

I don't like buying that many miles on anything, personally. But if you get snow, FDI will certainly make you happy. unless you WANT to be stuck at home for a snow day (sometimes fun)

I just paid 16,748 (before fees and warranty and all) for a 2008 FDII, LOADED with 24k on it so definitely check to make sure the price is fair and that there aren't better deals out there. Do you have Carmax in ChiTown?

I'd say keep looking. There are better deals out there. Just for the sole reason that 42K is more then I'd be comfortable financing for more then 2 or three years.

Just a few weeks ago I picked up a base model 2009 5 speed FDI with 20K miles for a $200 more then what your looking at.

I loved my 4x2 '08...But I'm glad I traded it in for the FDI. Even though it was a total hassle to make the deal because I found this deal through autotrader and he was located in PA. Deal was talked out over on the phone until I could see the car in person.
I live in southern MI but spend a great deal of time up north so the 4x4 will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all the great advice.

Although I think I might be more confused now. :)

Believe me I would much rather buy a Patriot with 20,000 miles or less. But I have a budget of around $13000. I have been searching high and low, but can't find any more that fit my budget.

Options i will not live without are automatic, power windows, and a/c.
I would also really like to have 4x4, sunroof, and the upgraded wheels.

I am running out of time because my current car is just about dead.

Are there any know problems with these Patriots that i should be on the look out for? I think i read something about Ball joints?

Thanks Again.

I got mine about two months ago, 2008 31k miles,auto,4x4,17in wheels, power windows,locks,mirrors,a/c with 100k extended warranty tax tag and other fees for just under 14k. hope this helps

I'm always totally amazed how many 4x2 Patriots get sold. I had one front wheel drive car. Never again. It's rear wheel drive or 4 wheel drive for me.

Thanks, i did see this one but i have to have power windows. It's a deal breaker for me.

I did just find one that might work. Just need to work on the price. It's a 2007 with 25000 miles and its an auto, power windows,17" wheels, 4x4 FDII. Asking 14,400

Those prices seem crazy to me. I could have bought that first 2008 FWD for $15k new 3 years ago.

I have FDI. It totally rocks in the snow. But that's less than 10 days a year and I can still drive my pickup in 2WD in the same stuff. Traffic is holding me back, not my vehicle. FWD is fine and that's probably what you have now and most of the country lives with.

That's what i thought too, i'm just not finding them.

I kind of agree about the FWD thing too. I live in Chicago and i can count on one hand how many times i would have needed 4x4 in the last 10 years. But it is nice WHEN you need it.

The search goes on:mad:

Honestly, I just bought mine a little over a week ago. Had a big storm and found water in my spare tire well. Not much, but any water inside a car is bad water. Took it back into Carmax today and they had a "leak guy" take a look at it and found a leak around the trough (i dunno if he meant hatch or the roof ditches down the sides of the roof, a leak around the 3rd brake light and also my power steering was leaking for some reason...

I haven't read much about power steering problems, but the water leaking in does seem to be an often recurring issue... be on the lookout for rust, wet carpet, water stains, etc. and I've read a good bit about the ball joints being an issue as well.
